-Who is she? (Elizabeth)

Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama born on January 17, 1964, Chicago,


Illinois, U.S., African-American First Lady
She is a lawyer, writer, and the wife of the 44th President, Barack Obama.

Through her four main initiatives, she became a role model for women and an
advocate for healthy families, ending childhood obesity. What she does to
solve these is that she planted a vegetable garden on the South Lawn of the
White House, She also helped military families and, international adolescent
girls education

The White House is the official residence and main workplace of the President
of the United States. The project was designed by George Washington and
built in 1790

Her father was a pump operator for the Chicago Water Department, while her
mother stayed at home to care for Michelle and her older brother Craig. As
she watched her father refuse to give in to multiple sclerosis, use two canes to
get to his job, and save money to send her to college, she learned that “The
only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and
your willingness to work hard for them.”

Michelle Obama shared her sadness that her late father didn't get to walk her down
the aisle, after he died the year before her wedding to Barack.

Since leaving the White House, has pursued multiple projects, including
publishing a bestselling memoir and releasing a documentary film series on
Netfix. Her Spotify podcast is her latest creative venture, focusing on
"meaningful relationships and conversations."

-What did she do? (Regina)

-After a year as First Lady, she undertook her first lead role in an administration wide
initiative. Her goal was to make progress in reversing the 21st century trend of childhood
obesity. She stated that her goal is to make this effort her legacy: "I want to leave
something behind that we can say, ‘Because of the time that this person spent here, this
thing has changed.’ And my hope is that that’s going to be in the area of childhood
obesity."She has named the movement "Let's Move"

-As First Lady she also supports military families, helps working women balance their
careers and families, encourages national service, promotes the arts and arts education,
and fosters healthy eating and healthy living for children and families across the country.
Additionally, she has earned widespread publicity on the topic of healthy eating by planting
the first White House vegetable garden since Eleanor Roosevelt served as First Lady.

-In 2011, Mrs. Obama collaborated with Mrs. Jill Biden to launch Joining Forces, an
initiative rallying American civilians and their organizations to support US service
members and veterans and their families. The initiative used a three-prong
approach—employment, education, and wellness—for organizing national efforts to
provide additional tools to the US military community.
-The Reach Higher initiative encouraged all American students to aspire to education
beyond high school, through training programs, community college, or university.
Expanding her educational goals to the international level, the Let Girls Learn program
drew together resources from the US Department of State, US Agency for
International Development, Peace Corps, Millennium Challenge Corporation, and US
President’s Emergency Fund for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to empower young girls
across the world to secure a quality education.

-Why is she inspiring? (Mya)

Michelle Obama has encouraged better education for girls, equal rights, healthy
living and more help for families living in poverty.

When Barack Obama was elected President of the United States in 2008, Michelle’s
activism had an international platform.

In 2010, as First Lady, Michelle launched her Let’s Move initiative, aimed at
addressing the childhood obesity problem gripping the United States. She urged
kids to make healthy choices and campaigned for companies and schools to offer
healthier eating options.

One year later, Michelle and Second Lady Jill Biden launched another initiative,
Joining Forces. It supported members of the armed forces, veterans and their
families.

Michelle focused on education in 2014, inspiring children to succeed academically.


She used her own upbringing to show what this could achieve.

She urged young people to continue their education beyond high school, giving
themselves the tools to decide how to pursue their chosen path to the best of their
abilities.
