    Guide Questions

    Activity 1
    1. Why is it important to reduce the aggregate to testing size?
    2. What is the difference between quartering and mechanical splitter?

    Activity 2
    1. What is moisture content?
    2. Why is it important to determine the moisture content of an aggregate?
    3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using an oven in drying the aggregates
    rather than a hot plate/stove?

    Activity 3
    1. List at least three sources of errors in the sieve analysis experiment.
    2. What are the factors affecting sieve analysis?
    3. What are the significance and use of the results in sieve analysis?

    Note:
    *Please use the same paper format as your laboratory group report in answering the guide
    questions including the 0.5-inch margin.
    *Guide questions should be stapled in their respective laboratory group report.
    Ex. Guide question for Activity 1 should be stapled on the laboratory group report for “
    REDUCING SAMPLES OF AGGREGATE TO TESTING SIZE”
    *Guide questions should be stapled alphabetically on the laboratory group report.
    *Guide questions must be done INDIVIDUALLY, copying guide questions will get a zero mark.
