INTRODUCTION

Hello, we are Noelia and Gabriel and today we are going to talk about one of the most important regions of
the United States.

Let's make a little introduction about the Nation, to get into our topic. Its official name is "UNITED
STATES OF AMERICA", it is a constitutional federal republic, which has 50 states and a federal district
which is also its capital. It is located between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Alaska is far away but into
the American continent, on the other hand, the USA has a state in Oceania, the Polynesian archipelago
called Hawaii.

The country ranks fourth in total land area and third in population. It is one of the most ethnically and
culturally diverse nations, a product of immigration.

THE FLAG

The flag we know today was made in 1960, when the 50 states were completed. The red and white

horizontal stripes represent the 13 original colonies, and the 50 stars on a blue background, represent the

currently 50 states of the nation.

THE REGIONS
The United States has different regions, with characteristics and things that make them unique. We will talk
about one of the most representative and oldest regions of this Nation. The Northeast Region.

THE NORTHEAST REGION


This region with 11 states, represents part of the beginning of the history of the United States, and has many
important historical milestones. Additionally, it is home to the nation's capital, Washington, DC.

THE WEATHER
The northeast region receives the 4 seasons because of the place where it is located. The summers are warm,

humid and sunny, which allows you to take advantage of its waters for sports and water activities, while the

winters are long and very cold at the same time allowing you to enjoy of activities and snow sports, since

sometimes there is more than 30 centimeters of snow during a storm.

Autumn is cool and brings the beautiful colors of the trees before the leaves fall, in spring it is warm and the

trees and flowers begin to bloom.


GEOGRAPHIC AND ECONOMIC CONNECTIONS OF THE REGION

Its geography is very interesting and varied. In this region we find a great variety of geographical features,
from the Allegheny Plateau and the so-called "Great Lakes", which are found in Pennsylvania which is an
important producer of mushrooms in this country, and whose reliefs it shares with New York, which is the
most important producer of apples, with hills full of cows as well, which allows them to produce dairy
products such as ice cream, milk and cheeses.

There is also swampland in Massachusetts where crandberries are grown, and a Garden State in New Jersey
where tomatoes, peaches and pumpkins are grown.
Before reaching the Atlantic Ocean, we can see on the way, the vast mountainous area of the Appalachian
Mountains, the green and white Adirondack and Catskill Mountains, New Hampshire's Mount Washington,
which is the highest mountain and one of the windiest places on earth.

Other lakes along the route include Vermont's crystal-clear Willoughby Lake, the largest lake in the USA in
Maine, called Moosehead Lake, major freshwater rivers such as the Blackstone River in Rhode Island, the
Ohio and Delaware Rivers and Susquehanna in Pennsylvania, and the Connecticut River, whose native name
means "along the long tidal river".

Another great source of natural water is the so-called Niagara Falls, which also produces electric power, the
extensive rocky coastline of Maine, a state that also has farms with potato and blueberry crops and a forest
that produces woods. There are also the low-lying beaches of Massachusetts and the beautiful sandy beaches
of New Jersey, home to numerous water activities. Fish, lobsters and other seafood are plentiful along the
coast.
We can find some important industries developed in this region are the textile industry in Rhode Island, the

granite and marble industry in New Hampshire, the education industry with its old universities like Harvard

in Massachusetts, the computer networking and technology industry, the health care industry and tourism.
And now that we mentioned tourism, let's show you some of the most important places, which you should

know if you decide to travel to this region….


.In New York you will find downtown Manhattan, the United Nations headquarters, the Statue of Liberty,
Times Square, Central Park, One World Trade Center, and the Brooklyn Bridge, among other places.

If you visit the Massachusetts state, you will be to get to know the is home to Boston's Financial District,
the Charles River, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum among others. Boston is the
capital and most populous city in Massachusetts, and one of the oldest cities in the United States. Here we
also find the Smithsonian Institution and Harvard University and The MIT.
The state of Pennsylvania is called the birthplace of the nation. The Declaration of Independence and the
national constitution were written there in The Independence Hall. Here you can also find a statue of
Benjamin Franklin, the Liberty Bell, the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Washington DC is home to the Lincoln Memorial, The Washington Monument and the United States
Capitol, The Library of Congress, The Smithsonian Institution who is an education and scientific centre with
numerous associated museums. It is administered and funded by the United States Government. The nation's
capital is home to the White House, where the presidential family lives.
In other hand, If you like wild nature you can go and see Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary,
where whale watching began and is currently one of the best places in the world to find humpback whales,
fin whales and endangered right whales, seals, sea birds among others.
WHAT DO WE EAT?
Popular Northeastern dishes include Maine lobster rolls, Vermont's creamy maple ice cream, saltwater taffy
or marshmallow, Rhode Island quahogs, New York bagels, Massachusetts creamy clam chowder, and Boston
baked beans, among others
FINALLY, LET US MENTION SOME FACTS ABOUT THIS REGION.

-Mount Washington is the highest mountain in the United States, and one of the windiest places in the world,
with winds reaching 231 miles per hour.

- New York is polyglot. About 800 different languages are spoken in the city, and the second
most spoken language is Spanish.
- New York state has its own style of pizza.

- The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was the original name of what is now known
as the Statue of Liberty.

- The US Capitol was one of the targets of the September 11, 2001 attacks. However, United
Airlines Flight 93, the plane that was to crash into the building, went down in a field in
Pennsylvania. In a heroic act by the passengers, when they learned what had happened to 2
other flights of the company.

- The U.S. Capitol has its own transportation system. Yes, since 1909 it has had an indoor
underground that runs between the Senate and the House of Representatives offices.
- Boston is a small city in Massachusetts compared to other cities. Yet it is home to more than
850 restaurants - there's plenty to choose from!

- Boston is home to more than 50 universities, as well as language, music and art schools. The
most important are MIT and Harvard, where Bill Gates, Obama and Mark Zuckenberg have
studied.

- In New York, one of its most iconic buildings, the Empire State Building, has its own
postcode.
- In Washington's National Cathedral you can see a gargoyle in the shape of Darth Vader's
head, one of its tourist attractions.

- The inventor of the Huija board lived and died in Baltimore. His tombstone is a reflection of
his invention.

- This region saw the birth of some inventions such as the helicopter, the bell, the submarine,
the lifesaver, among others.

In our opinion, the northeast region of the United States is full of surprises and history, with lots to do and
lots of scenery to enjoy. It is an area to visit as a family!
