1. General
1.1 Introduction

The lightning protection and earthing materials proposed shall be of a reputed manufacture and shall
be represented locally by a well-established firm, comprising qualified engineers and technical staff
and capable of maintaining adequate quantities of spares for the complete range of products. The
proposed system shall be of conventional Franklin rod type, and the radioactive types of materials are
not accepted.

1.2 Scope of Work

The scope within this specification shall comprise of supply and delivery of lightning protection
materials, should meet with technical specification outlined and the compliance with the BSEN 62305
as well as the chapter 12 and 13 of the CIDA SCA/8 publication. Maintaining adequate stocks of
spares for a period of one year commencing from the date of client’s utilization of the premises, is
also part of this scope.
Materials if found to be defective or unable to withstand for heat, rain or insects/rodent attacks, the
bidder shall replace those items at the cost of his own, for a period of two years.

1.3 Technical Details

Addition to the technical details mentioned from 2.1 to 2.5, all materials should be long lasting and
should hold the withstanding capability for Sri Lankan environmental conditions such as heat, rain
etc. Bidder shall provide all the technical details for each material for evaluations as well as the dully-
filled data sheets given with the tender documents. The selected bidder shall provide material samples
for the approval of Engineer when required.

Air terminals (Finials) shall be of phosphor bronze having four sharp points, three of which are
equally around one vertical point, total height not less than 100cm and the diameter of the rod not less
than 10mm. Mounting base of the same material or other suitable material should be provided which
the rod and the base can be firmly connected without introducing third party accessories.

2.2 Roof Conductors

Roof conductors shall be of soft annealed copper tape of minimum 25 mm in width and 3mm in
thickness, which the brand name and dimensions are etched on the tape in equal distances.

length 2.4 m. The electrodes must be factory made with one pointed end, which the total length
including the pointed end should be clad with minimum 250 microns of copper. Supplier shall
provide a Suitable D type rod to cable clamp for each copper rod, which should be made with
durable non-corrosive material.

2.4 Copper Tape Fixing Clips

Ridge blocks and wall blocks shall be of non-metallic material and shall be durable and heavy duty,
fixed with non-corrosive screws. Bidder shall provide adequate fixing screws and other required
accessories for the proper fixing of blocks.

2.5 Earth Electrodes for Panel Earthing

The main earth electrode for building main distribution board shall be 600mm x 600mm x 5mm
Copper plate which has 12mm dia slot at the center of the plate for the connection of earth cable
with a copper lug. Bidder shall provide 120mm/12d copper cable lug and 2”/12mm SS nut & bolt
with two no. of SS washers for each plate.

2.6 Exothermic Weld Powder
