MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH STATISTICAL MODELLING FOR PUBLIC HEALTH

Codebook for Sickness Data

This data set is relatively old, such that it is unlikely that it would pass a modern ethical review process!
Two groups of randomly allocated volunteers were assigned to a low force or high force movement
test, using a closed cabin mounted on hydraulic rams. Each person underwent a 2 hour period of
testing, with an “event” being defined as the subject being physically sick (emesis). The subjects were
also able to withdraw from the test before completion, and a number of them did so.

The data set is available as a Comma Separated Values file (Sickness.csv).

Coding for the variables is described below.

Variable Name Description

Survtime Time to emesis or withdrawal (minutes)

Group Experimental group: 1 = Group A

2 = Group B

Status Status at Survtime: 0 = Censored

1 = Event
