A1 conversation past verbs

1. List regular verbs on board. Students onnect each verb with an activity

give pictures and word labels. In pairs match the pictures and labels
feedback by holding up a picture and the class say the label

write the sentence… then error correct. The auxillary is past so the verb stays infinitive

In the response the verb is in the past
Yes I watched tv. I saw a quiz show. Short response ‘yes, I did’ ‘no I didn’t’

Introduce the game, what did you do last night?


Demonstrate on board with a student.
In threes or fours, put the action cards in a pile upside down, one person takes a card and the
others must ask a question ‘did you _____ last night?
Respond yes I did/no I didn’t. if the student guesses correctly they keep the card.

Extra – ask the class what did you do last night? Then they can ask their partners.
