Practice describing the weather by taking turns saying It’s a (sunny) day. Pretend it’s raining, pick up
an umbrella, and identify whose umbrella it is. Say This is (Kate’s umbrella). Take a walk around the
neighborhood and talk about familiar places, people, and their jobs. Say (He’s) my (teacher) as you see
people you know. Say Hello, Goodbye, and See you later to the neighbors and friends you meet. Go into a
store and find your favorite foods. Say These are my favorite (cookies). Tell your child, I have a new game.
Then play a game to guess where people are going. Say (He’s) going to the (park). Ask your child What time
is it? and encourage him or her to respond It’s (12:30). Say It’s time for lunch and take your child to lunch or
on a picnic.

chips, and popcorn. Put these snacks into two paper bags. Then close the bags and mix them up. Each
of you should take one bag and look inside. Take turns saying, Oh, no! I don’t have any (potato chips) and
responding with I think I have some. Continue the conversation, saying Can I have some? and responding
Sure. Help yourself! Offer a snack, saying Do you want some (crackers)? Be sure to express thanks.
