about AR

Augmented reality
(AR)
What is AR? Augmented
reality is an enhanced,
interactive version of a real-
world environment achieved
through digital visual
elements, sounds, and other
sensory stimuli via
holographic technology.

Augmented reality is used to

either visually change natural
environments in some way or
to provide additional
information to users. The
primary benefit of AR is that it
manages to blend digital and
three-dimensional (3D)
components with an
individual's perception of the
real world.

Augmented reality uses the existing

real-world environment and puts virtual
information—or even a virtual world—on
top of it to enhance the experience. For
example, think of Pokémon Go, where
users are searching in their real-life
neighborhoods for animated
characters that pop up on their phone
or tablet.

Augmented reality makes it possible

to reduce design, production, and
maintenance costs. For example,
using augmented reality to maintain
machinery allows problems to be
solved faster and more efficiently,
reducing the time taken to search for
and identify malfunctions, as well as
the length of time for repairs.

However, AR also has some

drawbacks, such as the cost
and complexity of
developing and maintaining
AR content, the need for
compatible devices and
software, and the potential
for technical glitches or user
errors.
