INTERVIEW SCHEDULE

With the Architect

The questions have been designed to explore in as much depth as possible the wide range of factors that may
contribute to an effective research institute its theoretical concept of an empathic environment that embeds
innovative technologies in balancing and understanding the relationship of architecture, user, and technology in
a built environment creating responsive buildings, so that this information may contribute to a better
understanding of how this also contributes to a culture of research integrity, and to enable good practices to
be shared across the Institute itself.

The questions are intended as a guide, and further questions may be asked to investigate certain aspects in
more detail.
INTRODUCTION
Please provide your name, professional affiliation, and contact information.
Have you been involved in projects that incorporate an empathic environment in the development of research
laboratories/hubs/centers/institutes?
RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT (A research environment is supported by a culture of integrity and is built on strong
administration, best practices, and support for researcher growth.)
What is the research hub's size, form, and structure inspiration? (Architect in CHMSU-Bacolod)
Do you believe there is a distinct culture within a research facility? What impact does this have on the research
environment?
How will the research center establish and sustain research standards?
What happens if it is discovered that required standards are not being met, and how are such problems identified?

FOR SITE PLANNING (Empathic Environment Principles: Built Environment for Innovative Connection with Nature,
Publicly Accessible Mobility)
One of the principles of an empathic environment is to integrate innovative connections with nature in a built
environment: First question, What is the extent of suitability of the site in utilization of natural resources to a
Research Institute of Natural Sciences and Technology that caters to the branch of Basic Biology (Biological
Research and Services, Research and Analytic Services) and Environmental Science (Environment Protection,
Climate Change)? And what are those in mind that you could suggest in terms of harnessing natural resources and
making them useful?
What are the key elements to consider in utilizing natural resources?
What are the functional outdoor space that encourages relaxation and social interaction?
How important is access to natural daylight and views of the surroundings for a research facility?
What are your suggestions for climate-responsive design especially in the Philippines?
What are innovative ways or spatial planning of a comfortable navigation of the site?
What are the key elements of a universal design feature that make the site area accessible to people with
disabilities?
FOR BUILDING FUNCTION (Empathic Environment Principles: Fosters Collaboration Emphasizing Inclusivity,
Sensory Experience of Space)
Research institute provides opportunities to learn and enhance knowledge through shared facilities where
individuals can make discoveries and inventions together. What can you suggest to be able to emphasize the
belonging of each user within the facility and allow collaboration among the users?
Inclusivity consists of not just facility personnel, and professional researchers, but it also involves interaction
between the general users, such as the community. What are the ways to fill the gap between the people outside,
people with disabilities, and the users of the research facility?
What are other innovative ways to collaborate interaction and collaboration within a research facility?
Empathic architecture goes beyond functionality by engaging the human senses, including sight, sound, touch,
taste, and smell, to create environments that evoke emotional and cognitive responses. In terms of selecting
materials, textures, and furniture, what are your suggestions to encourage physical interaction with the facility?

Designing spaces with acoustics in mind ensures a pleasant auditory environment free from disruptive noise. What
are your suggestions about this?
FOR BUILDING AESTHETICS AND MATERIALS (Empathic Environment Principles: Inspirational Design Stimulating
Creativity, Incorporating Ethical Surroundings with Smart Technology)
What is the appropriate aesthetic character in designing a research institute of natural sciences and technology
mirroring the integration of an empathic environment?
The physical surroundings of the research institutes, specifically the laboratories create a significant impact on the
productivity of researchers. What are the following elements that could further enhance both the aesthetic and
work results of the facility?
What specific choices of colors, shapes, and visual elements create environments that evoke specific moods and
inspire creativity? What about sustainable elements?
What are other design features that emphasize a connection to nature?
Personalization can nurture creativity in individuals, what are your suggestions about this?
What are incorporating sustainable materials, energy-efficient techniques, and eco-conscious strategies to minimize
ecologically, you find effective?
In the digital era, incorporating advanced technology allows to facilitate communication, belonging, and
cooperation among users, what are the following examples that could enhance the sustainability of the research
facility?
FOR BUILDING TECHNOLOGY AND UTILITY SYSTEMS (Empathic Environment Principles: Adaptable Facilities to
Changing Demands, Incorporating Ethical Surroundings with Smart Technology)
Because laboratory usage changes so frequently, it is necessary to have furniture, pieces of equipment, and services
that can be relocated and altered quickly. What are the suggestions for relating this idea of an adaptive facility to the
current needs of research and development of the city?
How will the researcher be able to embed smart technology to promote advanced sensors and an eco-friendly
surrounding that balances the relationship between architecture, users, and technology?
RECRUITMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF STAFF (Research Institutes)
(Optional) What criteria are used to hire research staff?
(Optional) What training and development opportunities are provided to research workers?
Does the administration have a system/process in place to provide performance feedback to researchers?
CLOSING QUESTIONS
What, in your opinion, are the major restraints to creating a healthy, competitive research environment that
encourages a culture of research integrity?
Do you have any criticisms about the University's current strategy to fostering research integrity? (Architect in
CHMSU-Bacolod)
Any final thoughts?
