3.3 Pneumatic coupling

Lightly grease O-rings and O-ring adapters with oxygen grease

(170260600) before replacing them. This prevents damage to the O-rings
and ensures that the parts have a longer service life.
Caution

3.3.2 Maintenance check

Check the following points once again after replacing the O-rings:

 Have all O-rings been replaced?

 Are all O-rings lying in the corresponding groove?
 Are none of the O-rings twisted?
 Have all O-rings and the O-ring adapters been lightly
greased?

 After completing the checks, switch AKZENT COLOR on with

fitted ventilation system.
 While switching AKZENT COLOR on, watch closely how the
pneumatic coupling retracts into the ventilation system. This
must happen easily and smoothly, with the coupling going into
the ventilation system until reaching the catch.

The following reasons could result in the pneumatic coupling not

retracting at all or only partly into the AKZENT COLOR ventilation
system:
 Not enough pressure in AIR supply and/or O2 supply
 The ventilation system holding arm is bent. In this case, the
ventilation system is no longer aligned parallel to the pneumatic
coupling.
 The O-rings are not adequately greased.
 There is a foreign material between the ventilation system and
the pneumatic coupling (e.g. cable of O2 probe, hose of measured
gas return system, etc.).

 Fritz Stephan GmbH SA-160-0617V1.3-HAO-en 31

3 Maintenance of Akzent Color

The pneumatic coupling is operated by a pneumatic cylinder which can

exert very great forces. For example, fingers can easily get stuck.
Therefore never remove the safety cover at the ventilation system which
Caution
covers the gap between the ventilation system and the pneumatic
coupling.

4.3 Examination of the gas supply

4.3 Examination of the gas supply

The examination of the gas supply must be accomplished. Otherwise

mortal danger exists for the patient.
Danger

Check that the different supply gases O2, Air and, depending on the
version, N2O, are connected correctly.

 To do so, close all dosage valves of the gas mixing unit. Then open
the O2 dosage valve of the gas mixing unit to the maximum. The O2
concentration shown on the AKZENT COLOR monitor must be 95-99
%.
 When this test is successful, close the O2 dosage valve. Then open the
Air dosage valve to the maximum. The O2 concentration shown on
the AKZENT COLOR monitor must be 21 %.

 When using an AKZENT COLOR with N2O, close the Air dosage
valve, open the N2O valve completely and adjust O2 valve to 1 liter.
Check the N2O concentration (at the ratio of N2O:O2 /3:1) with
internal (ILCA) or external anesthesia gas module.
 Check the function of the O2 flush button. The O2 concentration
shown on the monitor of the AKZENT COLOR must be 95-99 %.

If all tests are successful, the AKZENT COLOR is ready to use. If one of
the tests failed, check the supply gas connections again and repeat the
tests.
