OBJECTIVE 2

Evaluated with colleagues the effectiveness of teaching strategies that promote learner achievement in
literacy and numeracy. (PPST 1.4.3)

The Focal Group Session conducted was a very good refresher to us, teacher who are already in
the service for more that a decade. I was also very grateful to our Master Teacher, Mrs. Evelyn M.
Salumbides for initiating this topic in our LAC session because it enhances our effectiveness and
efficiency as teacher to deliver and promote learner achievement in literacy and numeracy with the use
of effective teaching strategies.

In this Focal Group Session, I realized that a learner-centered teaching philosophy is an approach
to education that places the learner at the center of the learning process. It recognizes that each learner
is unique and has their own needs, interests and abilities. This approach and strategy facilitate learners’
growth and development by actively engaging them in a variety of activities in literacy and numeracy,
learning process and tailoring to their individual needs.

Key principles of a learner-centered teaching philosophy include active learning: learners are
actively involved in the learning process through hands-on activities, discussions, and problem-solving
exercise. They are encouraged to think critically, ask questions, and explore concepts on their own.
Collaboration encouraged learners to share their ideas, perspective, and experiences that promote
communication skills, teamwork, and the development of social relationships. Inquiry-based approach
focus is on fostering curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking skills.

A learner-centered teaching philosophy places the learner at the forefront of the educational
experience, empowering learners to take ownership of their learning and become active, self-directed
learners towards their achievements in numeracy and literacy skills.
