GENERAL EDUCATION
GE 8: Mathematics in the Modern World
Prelim OTR 1
Topic: Patterns and Numbers in Nature
Due: August 26, Saturday @ 11:59 PM
Total: 25 points
Task: Capture/Take picture of objects, living or non-living things, found in nature and
associate to Mathematics concepts.
Location: Saint Louis College

General Guidelines:
1. Any man-made objects and/or objects specifically shaped, assembled or altered
should NOT be included.
Example:
pathway shaped plants

Photos taken from https://www.pinterest.ph/pin/422281202835550/ ;https://www.pinterest.ph/pin/471400285973973777/

2. Identify the mathematics concepts evident in the photo taken. You can explore
concepts in Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, Trigonometry, etc.
Example: triangles, reflection symmetry, Fibonacci sequence, etc.
3. Identify the name of the object and indicate the location where you took the photo.
4. In 4 – 7 simple sentences, explain why you see these mathematics concepts in the
photo. DO NOT COPY AND PASTE from the internet. State explanations in your own
words. If you wish to include a “definition” then cite your source, but such should be
limited to one (1) sentence only. Any output with plagiarized work will receive a
score of zero (0).
5. Make sure that your face is visible. This is to ensure that the object was personally
taken by you and not copied from the internet.
6. Blurred images will not be checked.

Specific Guidelines to Each Member:

1. You may create a messenger GC to facilitate the creation of your output.
2. Every member of the group is tasked to capture ONE object.
3. Make sure that no similar photos were taken or no mathematical concepts were
repeated. (Example: 3 of the members have taken a photo of leaves of plants; or 2 of
the members have the same concept reflection symmetry).
4. Be open to constructive criticisms. Consider suggestions with the goal in mind that it
is for the improvement of the whole output.
5. Any member who will not participate will receive a score of zero (0).

Role of the Leader:

• Decide on the date and time of uploading the drafts.
• Give comments and suggestions on how to improve the output. Make sure that all
instructions are followed and more importantly, make sure that explanations are not
copied from the internet.
• Follow-up the output of the members.
• Compile all the outputs in one file. Convert to PDF and follow the file name for group
works.
• Pass the final output on the Google classroom before the deadline.
• After uploading, inform the members to mark their Prelim OTR 1 as done.

Role of the Members:

• Coordinate with the group leader.
• Upload your output in any “Word document” on the group chat on or before the
agreed time. Do not assume that the group leader will be the one to encode your
explanations or arrange your own output.
• Give comments and suggestions on how to improve the output.
• Forward edited output on or before the agreed time.
• Mark Prelim OTR 1 as done after the leader confirmed that the output has been
passed.
