liquid /‘lɪkwɪd/ n. 液体
gas /ɡæs/ n. 气体
 What does the word “uncountable” mean?

 uncountable (adj.)
◆ not countable; incapable of having the total precisely
ascertained
 A countable noun is a count noun.

 If a noun is uncountable:
◆ we do not normally use a/an in front of it
◆ it does not normally have a plural and can be used in
questions with How much?
◆ we cannot normally use a number in front of it
 Can you tell “how many water are there in a cup?”

 As you can see, you cannot count water, because


they are not countable.
 Uncountable nouns

 An uncountable noun is not used with "a" or "an"


and cannot be made plural.

 Words which are often uncountable include:


◆ sports, abstract nouns, substances (e.g. liquid
and gas)
 Uncountable nouns

 An uncountable noun has only one form.


 E.g.
◆ rice, water, flour, etc.

 Uncountable nouns are things we can’t count.


 We can’t put an “s” on an uncountable noun.
◆ We can’t say “one rice”, “two noddles”, “three waters”,
etc.
