Babysitting
by NadiaPetrov
I'dnever thought about babysitting until my mum suggested Ilook after my six-year-old cousin one
night. My aunt and uncle had arranged to go out with my parents, but their babysitter cancelled at
the last minute. They called my mum to say that they would have to cancel their night out, but my
mum su9gested that Ibabysat. My aunt thought that was a great idea, so Mum and Dad drove me
tomy aunt's house. Mycousin was already asleep, and he didn't wake up at all, so ljust watched TV.
At the endof the night when my aunt anduncle came back and paidme the same amount that they
would have paid their regular babysitter, Idecided that babysitting was an easy way to make money!
Inow babysit for my aunt at least once a month, and Isometimes babysit for my next-door neighbours
too. They've got twin daughters who are four years old. They're always asleep when Igo to their
house, so Iwatch TV or read a book. Sometimes leven do my homework! They don't usually wake up,
but if they do I just tellthem astory and they fall asleep again.

I've never had to call the parents to ask them tocome home, but I've got their mobile numbers and
l always know where they're going. Recently, my neighbour told me that her sister wanted me to
babysit for her too, but lIdidn't feel comfortable babysitting for someone Ididn't know, and Idecided
to say no. It's agreat way to make extra pocket money, but it isn't easy being responsible for the
childrenwhile their parents are out.
