CHAPTER ONE

1.0 INTRODCUTION

Cement mortar and concrete are the most widely used construction

materials a part from earth, it is difficult to pointout another materials of

construction which is as versitice as concrete. It is materials of choice

where strength, permanence, impermeablility, fire resistence and abrasion

resistance are red. It is so closely associated new with every human

activity that it touches human being in this day to day living. The materials

used for mixing concrete are cement, sand, and grave is. Among these

materials cement is the most expensive materials.

Nigerians is blessed with many brand of cement such as Dangote, Ashaka,

Burham and Burcement just mention a few. Therefore, the important of

knowing.

The strength of different types of cement can not be over emphasized.

1.4 JUSTIFICATION

Different types of cement used may possess some verying propatice when

it comes to concrete prooduction, which includes setting time and

development of strength with time or age of curing. It is important to

assess these properties.

1.5 AIMS OF STUDY

The aim of this study is to examine the compressive strength of concrete

using three different brands of cement.

1.6 OBJECTIVES OF STUDY

2. To help the society in knowing that standard used of cement.

3. To determine if there is any variation in strength between the three

types of cements

4. To determine the best cement brand to be used in concrete

production.

1.7 METHODOLOGY

Laboratory test was conducted of cubes specimen of concrete produced

using the three (3) types of cement.

To investigate the compressive strength in 7, 14, and 28 days of curing.

Cubes of 150mmX150mmX150mm were used for the compressive test.
