CAPSULE RESEARCH PROPOSAL

Working Title: “The Influence of Spell-Checker Feature on

English Spelling Skills Among Selected Grade
10 Students of SANHS”

Project Objectives and Significance: In every school, such as San Anton

National High School (SANHS), identifying
and analyzing whether something is
advantageous or disadvantageous to students’
grammar skills is important. With the
integration of technology in education in
today’s generation, it is crucial to help and
guide each English learner in using an
appropriate variety of English writing tools in
honing their English grammar skills,
particularly their English spelling skills, and to
protect them as well from the possible negative
effects those can have on their said skills.
However, it can be presumed that SANHS
might be facing challenges in addressing and
recognizing all the real and possible influences
of the use of various grammar features that
different grammar tools have, specifically the
spell-checker feature, on the spelling skills of
grade 10 SANHS students, which might help
or prevent these students from honing their
spelling skills.

This study primarily aims to identify the

possible influences of the spell-checker feature

on English spelling skills among selected

grade 10 students at San Anton National High
School (SANHS) during the academic year
2023-2024.

In order to meet this objective, it is

specifically essential to:

1.) Identify the profile of the target

respondents in terms of:

1.1.) age; and

1.2.) sex.

2.) Identify the grammar tools with spell-

checker feature the target respondents
are using.

3.) Determine what types of English

writing students use the spell-checker
feature for.

4.) Determine how often the target

respondents are using the spell-checker
feature to accomplish their English
written schoolwork.

5.) Determine the effects of the spell-

checker feature on the English spelling
skills of the target respondents.

6.) Find out the possible strategies to hone

the possible positive influences or
cease the negative influences of the
spell-checker feature on English
spelling skills of the target respondents.

This study may aid certain individuals

acquire awareness and an understanding of the
real and possible influences of utilizing
specific grammar tool features, specifically the
spell-checker feature, on students’ English
spelling skills. These awareness and
understanding could be used as springboards
for ideas, suggestions, and strategies to
enhance the positive effects of this
phenomenon or stop the negative ones.
Specifically, this study may be beneficial for
students, teachers, school administrators, and
future researchers of San Anton National High
School (SANHS), as well as for those
particular stakeholders of different schools.

Methodology To determine the influences of spell

target respondents of this study, correlational
design will be used. It will be conducted at San
Anton National High School located at Brgy.
San Anton, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija, with
the target respondents being selected junior
high school grade 10 students. To get the
number of participants, the research will be
based on purposive sampling technique. To
gather the data needed, a questionnaire will be
implemented as a research instrument. The
structured questionnaire will be constructed for
the survey and will be distributed to the target
respondents through personal appearance,
using the time their research adviser will allot
them. The responses of the respondents will be
treated with the utmost confidentiality. In
interpreting and presenting the data, frequency
count, percentage, Likert scale, mean, standard
deviation, tables, and graphs will be used.

Estimated Budget: The estimated budget the researchers will

allocate for the implementation of this research
study is 5,000 PHP.
