the use of fillers, especially when utilizing the
English language in oral communication, is
common among students. One of the objectives
and roles of every school and university is to
help and guide all English language learners to
benefit as well as to protect them from certain
factors or situations, such as the utilization of
fillers in oral communication, which may hone or
hinder the development of their English language
skills, including their listening comprehension
skills. However, it can be presumed that NEUST
San Leonardo Off-Campus may be facing
challenges in addressing and recognizing all the
real and possible influences of this phenomenon
on the listening comprehension of students of
this university, just like other universities and
colleges in the aforementioned country.

This study primarily aims to identify the

possible influences of fillers on English listening

Education (BSEd) majoring in English second-
year college students of Nueva Ecija University
of Science and Technology (NEUST) San
Leonardo Off-Campus during the academic year
2023-2024.

In order to meet this objective, it is

specifically essential to:

1.) Identify the profile of the target

respondents in terms of:
1.1.) sex;
1.2.) age; and
1.3.) type of English language learners.

2.) Identify how often the target respondents

use fillers in the classroom.

3.) Determine what English speaking

activities target respondents engage in the
classroom.

4.) Determine the possible influences of

filler on the English listening
comprehension of the target respondents.

5.) Find out the possible strategies on how to

lessen the possible negative influences of
filler on listening comprehension skills
among the target respondents.

This study may aid particular individuals

in having awareness and understanding about the
possible influences of fillers on the English
listening comprehension of students, which may
be used as springboards for ideas, suggestions,

and strategies to enhance the positive effects of

this phenomenon or stop the negative ones that
the students are possibly experiencing.
Specifically, this study may be beneficial for
students, teachers, school administrators, and
future researchers of NEUST San Leonardo Off-
Campus, as well as for those certain stakeholders
at different schools and universities.

Methodology To determine the influence of fillers on

English listening comprehension among the
target respondents of this study, a descriptive
research design will be used. It will be conducted
at the Nueva Ecija University of Science and
Technology (NEUST) San Leonardo Off-
Campus located at Brgy. Tambo Adorable, San
Leonardo, Nueva Ecija, with the target
respondents being second-year students in the
Bachelor of Secondary Education major in
English college course. To determine the number
of participants, the research will be based on a
simple random sampling technique. To gather the
data needed, a questionnaire will be implemented
as a research instrument. The structured
questionnaire will be constructed for the survey
and will be distributed to the target respondents
through personal appearance, using the time their
research adviser will give to them. The responses
of the respondents will be treated with the utmost
confidentiality. In interpreting and presenting the
data, frequency count, percentage, Likert scale,
mean, standard deviation, tables, and graphs will
be used.

Estimated Budget: The estimated budget the researchers will

allocate for the implementation of this research
study is 4,000 PHP.
