1. Why is J. Robert Oppenheimer often referred to as "the father of the atomic bomb"?
2. Give your personal opinion about Oppenheimer and his invention!

Answer:
1. J. Robert Oppenheimer is often referred to as "the father of the atomic bomb" due to
his significant role in leading the Manhattan Project during World War II, which
ultimately resulted in the development of the first atomic bombs. The Manhattan Project
was a secretive research and development project that aimed to create an atomic
weapon, and he was chosen to head the project due to his expertise in theoretical
physics.

Oppenheimer’s leadership and scientific guidance were instrumental in bringing

together the efforts of various scientists and engineers to design and build the atomic
bombs. He played a crucial role in both the theoretical and practical aspects of the
project, including the development of the bomb's design, the choice of materials, and
the coordination of the immense scientific and engineering effort required. The
successful testing and deployment of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in
1945 marked a turning point in world history and had profound implications for
warfare, diplomacy, and global politics.

2. In my opinion, after watching the film, I now know who J. Robert Oppenheimer is and
why his contribution to the Manhattan Project is so crucial in both the theoretical and
practical aspects of the project, including the design of the atomic bomb. I also
understand why the atomic bomb was important for USA in World War II. However,
the aftermath of dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki resulted in
immense human suffering and loss of life, clearly making the invention immoral and
unethical. Even Oppenheimer himself regretted and had conflicted feelings about his
role in the development of the atomic bomb. After witnessing the destructive power of
the atomic bomb in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, he became increasingly aware of the
moral and ethical implications of his work. So that's why sometimes your invention can
be super destructive if used in the wrong way.
