Some key scientists and military people involved with the Trinity Explosion He became a U.S. citizen in 1940.

A Nobel prize winner, he was most famous for his theory of relativity. He initially favored construction of the atomic bomb, but after the war, he lobbied for nuclear disarmament. He wrote the letter to President Roosevelt Albe which started the research work on atomic bombs. rt Einstein A Hungarian physicist, he was best known for encouraging Albert Einstein to warn President Roosevelt about the atomic bomb. He later worked with Enrico Fermi to construct the first nuclear reactor. Leo Szilard Enrico Fermi, an Italian by birth emigrated to America, primarily to escape Mussolini's fascist dictatorship. On December 2, 1942, he demonstrated the first controlled nuclear chain reaction in Chicago. He became one of the leaders of the team of physicists on the Manhattan Project.

J. Robert Oppenheimer

He is often referred to as the "father" of the atomic bomb He was appointed Oppenheimer as the scientific director of the Manhattan Project. Under Oppenheimer's guidance, the laboratories at Los Alamos were constructed. There, he brought the best minds in physics to work on the problem of creating an atomic bomb. The joint work of the scientists at Los Alamos resulted in the first nuclear explosion at New Mexico on July 16, 1945, which Oppenheimer named "Trinity." He voiced strong opposition to the development of the hydrogen bomb. A Nobel prize winner in physics , 1944, he served as a consultant to the Manhattan project. who would come and go from Los Alamos. In this unusual capacity, he was one of the very few exceptions to the strict security rules. General Groves made a special effort to bring Rabi, who had been a student with Oppenheimer.

General Leslie Groves

General Groves headed the Manhattan Project almost from its inception in 1942 until 1947, when atomic energy affairs were turned over to the newly created civilian Atomic Energy Commission. He was in charge of all phases of itscientific, technical and process development, construction, production, security and military intelligence of enemy activities, and planning for use of the bomb. Deputy to General Groves for the Manhattan Project. He gave the most descriptive accounts of the Trinity explosion and bombings.

Farrell, Thomas Brig. Gen. Bainbridge was recruited to the nuclear weapons laboratory at Los Alamos as Trinity Test Director. There he prepared and directed a facility for the first explosion of a nuclear bomb, the "Trinity Test."
