Literary Analysis 1
Love in the Cornhusks by Aida Rivera-Ford

The story "The Love in the Cornhusks" discusses family and marriage. Tinang,
also known as "Constantina Tirol," had a kid after being married to a Bagobo man.
Tinang serves a family in their area as a housekeeper. She cleans, cooks, and takes
care of her Senora’s gardens. Amado Galauran, Tinang's first love at the time, had a
unique love tale that did not finish happily ever after.
Her stories are one of those heartbreaking love stories that deals with
unspoken emotions that are too late to reveal. She never anticipated discovering the
truth about her first love in the circumstances of her current life. Instead of marrying
the man she loves, the girl marries someone else. This story teaches us that some
relationships do not last. As a result, some lovers find someone else to go on with.
However, if you have faith in your beloved, you will wait for him/her. But we have our
own choices. We can't blame our beloved for finding someone because it's their
choice. We must let them go because that is life.

Critical Approaches:

Feminism

The narrative depicts the lifestyle of a woman throughout history. We can still
see that if a woman comes from a poor background, she would do whatever to make
a better life for herself. Tinang, for example, is a helper in certain ways, yet she
manages to get an education in order to advance in life. Tinang shows the weaker
aspect of a woman's character by selecting her own course in life. Despite her
remorse, she wants to move on for the sake of her child and her own life.
Marxism

Tinang endured throughout the story since she was raised in a low-income
home and married a man she chose. If I were Tinang, I'd be too distracted with the
different scenarios that may unfold in my life if I didn't marry the Bagobo. Yet, we can
no longer turn back the clock and must accept that this is the way life is.
