This installation guide provides you with all the information you need to install the ProAir
terminal.

Symbols used in this guide

Important safety precautions Introduction

Important safety precautions


Please read the following notes carefully before doing any work on the device.

Installation notes
− When installing the device and/or doing any work on it, make sure that it is
disconnected from power.

− Remove those parts inside the unit which secure its components during transportation
if necessary for the installation (see enclosed information sheet).

General safety precautions


This device complies with the relevant safety regulations for information processing
equipment.

− When moving the device from a cold to a warm environment, do not operate it for at
least two hours to prevent possible damage caused by condensation.

− Only use the original packaging material to transport the device.

− Note the warning and information labels on the device.

− The device is equipped with a safety-tested power cable, which must be connected
only to a suitable grounded outlet.

− Always hold the plug when removing the power cable. Never pull the cable itself.

− Install cables in such a way that they will not be stepped on or tripped over or damaged
or crushed in any way.

− Have damaged power cables replaced immediately.

− Make sure that there is always free access to the sockets used or to the electrical
circuit-breakers of the house installation.

− In case of an emergency (e.g. damaged cabinets, controls or power cables, liquids or


foreign objects in the device) take the following steps:

Deactivate the device immediately by:

Switching off the automatic circuit-breaker or removing the fuse inset from the fuse
holder in the distribution box of the building installation;
Disconnecting the plug connector of the power supply cable from the grounded
socket in the building installation;
Switching off the main ON/OFF switch (see chapter "Introduction," section "General
power interrupt" in the operating manual).
Disconnecting the device from the UPS (if available) (see chapter "Introduction,"
section "General power interrupt" in the operating manual).

Inform the customer service responsible for you.

− During a thunderstorm, data transmission lines must not be connected or


disconnected.

− Always keep the device's vents free from obstruction to ensure proper air circulation
and to prevent malfunctions resulting from overheating.

− Only use accessories and extension components that have been approved by us.
Nonobservance can result in damage to the system or violations of regulations
concerning safety, radio interference and ergonomical requirements.

− Note that there are only safety extra-low voltage circuits (SELV circuits) if you want to
feed voltage from an external source into prepared cables to install additional
electronics (e.g. connection for an intruder alarm system).

− To clean the device only use cleaning agents approved by Wincor Nixdorf GmbH &
Co. KG (see chapter "Cleaning, Service and Maintenance" in the operating manual).

Repairs

Repair work may only be carried out by authorized personnel.

Unauthorized opening of the device or repair work carried out improperly could
result in considerable danger to the user.

In case of noncompliance, Wincor Nixdorf GmbH & Co. KG excludes all liability.

Planning the Installation
This chapter provides you with all the information you need to prepare the installation.

Device dimensions
All dimensions are specified in millimeters (inches). The views of the device are
not drawn to scale.

All device edges have a radius of 3 mm (0.12").

A front view, side view, top view, rear view and a view of the maintenance space
on a scale of 1:20 can be found in the appendix.

If the system is installed at a construction site, use the air cushion foil the system
is delivered in. You may use the bubble pack the system is wrapped in for this
purpose.

Installation options
The device is installed as a standalone appliance in a room. Care must be taken to allow
for the appropriate operating and service areas (see section "Operation and maintenance
space").

Choosing the installation site


When choosing the installation site, make sure that

− bright ceiling light, light reflections and direct sunlight shining on the screen are
avoided,

− the requirements concerning ambient conditions can also be met in lobbies.

If necessary, appropriate arrangements must be made.

Floor area preparations


The device must only be installed in closed, heatable operating areas under the conditions
applicable to the climatic class 3K2.

Floor area
The installation area must be flat and on one level with the surrounding floor. Any
unevenness in the floor area must be leveled out with shims. This is not part of the
installation procedure, but must be done by a contractor.

Power and data cables

General information
To connect the device, power and data cables are required. The unit is shipped with a
power cable. The length of free cable is 2.5 m (8.20 ft).

The data communications cable must be supplied by the customer.

The following data cables must be planned for the network adapter options:

− Ethernet network adapter: Data cable with RJ 45 connector

− Other network adapters: Data cable with a connector compatible with the network
adapter

You will find the position of cable entry in the figures in the section entitled "Cable feed".

connected via the cable duct with flap (1).

Power supply
The device must only be connected to a TN system. In addition to the power supply for
the device, grounding outlets must be provided by the customer for supplementary
equipment such as a modem.

Planning the Installation Transport path requirements

Transport path requirements


The system is equipped with a shipping pallet. A forklift truck will be required to transport
the transport unit and to unload the ProAir from the shipping pallet (see section
"Requirements for the forklift truck").

Alternatively, the transport unit can also be conveyed with a pallet truck. In this
case, the ProAir must be removed from the shipping pallet manually, which could
cause damage to the device.

Observe the ambient condition requirements in the chapter "Appendix", section "Technical
data" for transportation and storage.

The entire transportation route and the installation site must be checked for load capacity
and, if necessary, strengthened as appropriate before the installation date.

Due to the shipping pallet some dimensions are different (see illustration below).

Check beforehand if there is enough space to move the device through doors and
hallways.

The following illustration (scale 1:20) should help you determine if the space is
sufficient. It shows the device on a standard lift truck.
With the help of the grid (100 mm x 100 mm (3.94" x 3.94")) you can draw the
actual dimensions of the door and the hallway to find out if there is enough space
for transportation. Refer to the next page for an example.

In the appendix there is a drawing of the device with a lift truck on a scale of 1:20
which may serve as a template.

Requirements for the forklift truck


The forks of the forklift truck must have the following dimensions:

Installation
This chapter describes the individual steps to be taken to install the device.

All dimensions are specified in millimeters (inches). The diagrams are not drawn
to scale.

Contact the person in charge of planning the installation to verify that all
preparatory work has been done completely and correctly and that none of the
required power and data cables are missing.

Transportation
• Convey the transport unit with the forklift truck to the actual installation site before
removing the ProAir from the shipping pallet.

The forks of the forklift truck must be positioned as far as possible under the shipping
pallet.

Please note that the device may only be opened when the ProAir is standing on
the floor.

Removing the transport packaging


• Remove the packaging materials from the ProAir.

Dispose of the packing material which is no longer needed according to the


regulations of your country.

Moving the device


To move the device push against the sides of its body only as shown in the
illustration below.

When pushing the ProAir, make sure that the adjustable feet do not buckle.

Installation Removing the shipping pallet

Removing the shipping pallet


For transportation the device is equipped with a pallet. This must be removed before
installation.

Proceed as follows to remove the shipping pallet of the ProAir:

Removing the retaining brackets


At the rear of the device, remove the screws
from the support bracket (1) and (2) and
remove the support bracket.

At the front of the device, remove the screws


from the support bracket (1) and (2) and
remove the support bracket.

Removing the shipping pallet Installation

Unloading the device with a forklift truck


Position the forks of the forklift truck under the
front of the device (see arrows).

Lift the device far enough for the shipping pallet


to be removed.

• Pull the shipping pallet out from beneath the device.

• Carefully set the unit down.

Return the shipping pallet to Wincor Nixdorf and dispose of the support bracket in
compliance with national regulations.

Unloading the device without a forklift truck


The device may only be pushed by the chassis (see also section "Pushing the
device").

When you unload the device without a forklift truck, make sure that the adjustable
feet do not buckle when the device is pushed.

To avoid damage, do not unload the device onto the edge of a door or panel.

• Move the device forwards and unload it carefully from the shipping pallet.

Return the shipping pallet to Wincor Nixdorf and ensure that the packaging
materials and support bracket are recycled.

Installation of the ProAir


• Position the device at the installation site.
The device may only be pushed by the chassis (see also section "Pushing the
device").

To position the feet, the ProAir must be closed.

• Check whether the device is standing horizontally and adjust the position if necessary
using the four adjustable feet.

Ensure that the supporting wheel of the device carriage has approx. 1 mm (0.04")
clearance from the floor.

Adjusting the support wheel

• Open the customer panel (see chapter "Appendix", section "Opening / closing the
device").

• Remove the internal shipping restraints (see enclosed information sheet).

• Pull the device carriage a maximum of 10 cm (3.97") out of the device (see chapter
"Appendix," section "Opening / closing the device").

Release the locking screw (1).

Adjust the roller height so that the support


wheel has sufficient clearance from the floor
(approx. 1 mm (0.04")).

Tighten the locking screw.

Mounting the front panel


Only mount the front panel when the ProAir is positioned correctly and the support
wheel is secured.

• Open the customer panel (see chapter "Appendix", section "Opening / closing the
device").

• If you have not already done so, remove the internal shipping restraints (see enclosed
information sheet).

• Pull out the equipment carriage (see chapter "Appendix", section "Opening / closing
the device").

Secure the front panel (1) with knurled screws


(2) and (3).

• Push the equipment carriage back in and close the customer panel.

Before starting up the ProAir, read the section "Important safety precautions" in
the chapter "Introduction".

Open the flap (1) on the rear of the device.

Connect the power cable to connection (1).

Connect the data cable for the Ethernet network


to connection (2).

If you have ordered a different network adapter,


connect the data cable to the connection at
opening (3).

If you have not ordered a network adapter, the data cable for a network adapter
supplied by the customer must be laid from the opening (3) in the ProAir to the
PC.
The routing of the data cable is described in the following section.

Laying the data cable

Insert the data cable through the opening (1),


continuing through the intermediate space (2)
and secure it to the metal bar (3) with cable
ties.

Open the cable chain (4) and place the data


cable in the cable chain from below.
Close the cable chain.

Lay the data cable from the cable chain (1)


through the cable duct (2) to the appropriate PC
card (3).

Lay the data cable so that so that it is not jammed when the carriage is pushed
into the device.

To open it:
Insert the key in the lock of the customer panel
(1).

Turn the key to the right until the hole for the
main key (2) is uncovered.

Insert the main key (1) and turn it to the right.

Open the customer panel.

To close it:
Close the customer panel by following the same
steps in reverse order.

To pull it out:
Push the lever (1) down towards you.

Using the green handle (1), pull the equipment

steps in reverse order.

Environmental protection

Environmentally friendly product design and development


This product has been designed according to our corporate standard "Environmentally
friendly product design and development".

This means that crucial criteria such as long life, choice of material and its labeling,
emissions, packaging, ease of disassembly and recyclability have been taken into
account. This saves resources and relieves the strain on the environment.

Saving energy
Please switch on devices that need not be constantly running only when they are actually
needed. They should also be turned off when they are not needed for longer periods of
time.

Disposing of used consumables


Please dispose of batteries and printer consumables according to the applicable
regulations of your country.

Labels on plastic case parts


Please do not stick any labels on plastic case parts since that would make recycling more
difficult.
