CHARACTER INTERPRETATION (ENGLISH)

RULES:

1. The piece should be in the first person. The language of the piece should be English.
2. The Character to be interpreted should be one that is open to several interpretations.
3. Actual persons with well-defined characteristics (physical appearance, mannerism,
and speech patterns) known to the general public is NOT allowed.
4. The time of delivery shall not exceed three (3) minutes and not less than two (2)
minutes. With the first word spoken or dramatic movement, whichever comes first,
the duration of the performance begins.
5. For every ten ( 10) seconds exceeded or less than the time limit, with a fraction of at
least (5) seconds being counted as ten ( 10) seconds, one point will be deducted from
each judge’s total score
6. Props, the make-up of characters, or the use of costumes are permitted. The word
"props" is described as something that for an infinite length of time can be raised by
one hand. Only the contestants are permitted to carry their props. Secondary
characters (such as other people or animals) are NOT approved. Sets are similarly
banned. Cross-dressing is ALLOWED.
7. Pyro techniques are prohibited.
8. Character background should be submitted together with the entry.

SPECIFIC GUIDELINES FOR CHARACTER INTERPRETATION:

1. “Character interpretation” is defined as the artistic interpretation of a

particular character and should not be confused with the Character
Impersonation of Mimicry.
2. Character interpretation is not authorized for real individuals with recorded
footage, in other words, motion pictures or videos.
3. The language and acts used must be vulgarity-free. It is not appropriate to
exaggerate crimes, abuse, perversions, and lewd scenes; it should be
highlighted rather than the victory of good over evil.

4. Judges reserve the right to disqualify an applicant on the grounds of non-

compliance with the conditions set out above.
