1. MATATAG Curriculum which is an acronym for its component MAke the curriculum
relevant to produce competent, job-ready, active, and responsive citizens, TAke steps to
accelerate the delivery of basic education services and provision of facilities, TAke good
care of learners by promoting learner well-being, inclusive education, and a positive
learning environment, Give support to teachers to teach better. Aims in giving relevant
and timely knowledge for students adapting the quote “must know” instilling a
foundational skill such as numeracy, literacy, and socio-emotional-skill. Reducing
learning competency tends to give student a time to prepare to proceed to the higher
level thus, it will also give the teacher the ability to focus on teaching foundational skill
that the student need. K to 12 on the other hand aims to produce students that is
equipped with 21st Century skill. This curriculum was based on the “Education for all
2015” that is missioned to developed functionally literate and developed Filipino. K -12
delivers a broader learning competency that a learner must have and adapting the quote
“Nice to know”. K – 12 also aiming to cope with the international education system
adding up 2 more years known as “Senior High School” grades 11-12. MELCs was
created amid Pandemic. Wherein it complies the Most Essential Learning Competencies
from K – 12 that a student must acquire. Education became Learner-centered, and
teacher is more like the facilitator of learning because of the chosen competencies.
MELCs made education a flexible one since it reduces or merge into one the learning
competencies that a student shall developed.

2. - K – 12 delivers a lot of learning competency that serves as its strength. How? In grade
4 curriculum guide elementary students at their age gets to know how to use a map, they
also get to be taught about the geographic location of a country and how each country
differs from style of living, culture, economic etc. Through this curriculum they are equip
with much of cognitive skill and is can understand how vital their role as a citizen in the
coming future. And despite of their age and year level they already can show their
patriotism, deep understanding about our culture and tradition, and see Philippines as
maritime and developing country.
- MELCs on a different point gave way for the flexible learning. Flexibility is one of the
key strengths of MELCs it gives enough budget of time for both student and the
teacher. The other thing is that it provides them both a clear sense of direction in the
classroom. In history or AP of elementary learners, students have longer time in
analyzing and reflecting on the given lesson, activity, and tasks etc. Its because they
only must acquire the most essential learning competency anchored on each lesson.
- MATATAG, a more specific curriculum wherein learning competencies are inclined to
developing foundational skill and 21st Century skill. Teachers are given enough time
to implement the learning competency that a learner should acquire for them to have
a balanced cognitive skill inclined with their progress on taking higher level. The
strength of this curriculum for AP Elementary is that students have less learning
competency to acquire and is only required to acquire a more specific yet
fundamental competency. Their subjects are also adjusted along with then again
learning areas giving them a time to prepare and develop their cognitive skill.

3. Despite of the employable, skilled, literate, and functional curriculum design K – 12 has
its limitations.
• K – 12 WEAKNESS SPOT
- Loaded with too many learning competencies, subjects or learning areas. Students
are having a hard time on coping with the learning competencies where is not
necessary for their year level
