Observation Assignment
I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to interview Dr. Garcher. I was excited for
this interview because being a physical therapist is the plan I have for my own future career.
During the interview, I found myself extremely captivated by all of the information he had to
share with me. One of the first things I noticed when I walked in was the environment the
business held. It was such an upbeat, happy place for not only the clients, but also the employees.
It was eight in the morning and everyone was so joyful and in a great mood. They employees
were joking around with each other making conversation, and the building was well lit with just
a happy vibe to it. The different equipment was so colorful and everything was very bright and
full of life inside. Dr. Garcher works in a clinic called Novacare Rehabilitation. It’s a small
business that is just off route 31. Turns out, the business is right across the street from the road
that I live on. It’s not visible from the road, but is down around the back of the building that is
visible. It was very convenient, because it only took about 2 or 3 minutes to get there from my
driveway. Dr. Garcher has mentioned that his work days, similar to any other physical therapist,
are about 6 hour days. I would say that is fairly normal, if not on the short end of the typical
work day. However, he splits his 40 hour work weeks into two separate things. He spends 20
hours for the outpatient side, and 20 hours for the management side. Even within 20 hour weeks
for being a physical therapist, Dr. Garcher still gets in 20 to 30 patients a day and can add up to
around 60 patients per week. I personally really liked everything this career has to offer. I really
enjoyed talking to Dr. Garcher about the pros and cons of physical therapy. I was pretty sure I
knew what I was going to do with my career. After this interview, it made me realize that my
choice was right and I definitely will be taking this path. I was fascinated by not only what Dr.
Garcher had to say, but also all that goes on within one week of this career. I was immensely
affected by this visit, and I can’t wait to get to the finish line of this track.
