Introducing WordPress
Getting into WordPress
WordPress is a content management system (CMS) that allows
you to host and build websites.
Features of WordPress
Simplicity makes it possible for you to get online and get publishing, quickly. Nothing should get in the way of you getting your website up and
your content out there. WordPress is built to make that happen.
Flexibility: With WordPress, you can create any type of website you want: a personal blog or website, a photoblog, a business website, a
professional portfolio, a government website, a magazine or news website, an online community, or even a network of websites.
Publish with Ease: If you’ve ever created a document, you’re already a whizz at creating content with WordPress. You can create Posts and
Pages, format them easily, insert media, and with the click of a button your content is live and on the web.
Easy Theme System: WordPress comes bundled with three default themes, but if they aren’t for you there’s a theme directory with thousands of
themes for you to create a beautiful website. None of those to your taste? Upload your own theme with the click of a button.
Extend with Plugins: WordPress comes packed with a lot of features for every user. For every feature that’s not in WordPress core, there’s a
plugin directory with thousands of plugins. Add complex galleries, social networking, forums, social media widgets, spam protection, calendars,
fine-tune controls for search engine optimization, and forms. Practical

Difference between WordPress.com and
WordPress.org
With WordPress.org, you host your own site (we recommend this). You’ll purchase your own web hosting service and then you’ll install the
WordPress software on that hosting. WordPress.com, on the other hand, it’s WordPress.com that takes care of all of this for you (easier to start,
less freedom). You just register for an account and you can start building. And that’s a major difference.
Practical
CHOOSE YOUR DOMAIN NAME
Your domain name is your site’s permanent address on the web — every website
needs one so people can access it. Ours is winningwp.com. In addition to being
your site’s address, your domain name also plays an important role in branding, so
you’ll want to put some thought into getting it right. So, what’s a good domain
name? It depends… If you’re building a personal portfolio, you may want to use your
own name — such as keanureeves.com. Or, if your business already has a name,
you’ll probably want to use that — such as walmart.com.
Practical
With web hosting, you’re basically renting space on a computer to power your
website.
When you’re just getting started with WordPress, it’s totally fine to choose cheap
WordPress hosting — you can always upgrade later as your site grows.
For cheap WordPress hosting that doesn’t skimp on quality or service, we
recommend SiteGround (read our SiteGround review).
