Main Duties and Responsibilities Organisational Structure

Organising and Planning:


• Act as the first point-of-contact for individuals referred for cancer genetics services, providing general non-
clinical advice and information directly to patients and their families, explaining the cancer risk assessment
process (as per written protocols) directly to patients and their families.
• Send out documentation as directed by the Consultant / Genetic Counsellor to individuals to ascertain family
histories of cancer, verifying details of affected relatives with cancer registries and other sources of medical
information.
• Respond to general enquiries, and facilitate patient communication prior to clinic appointments including
organisation and coordination of repeated contact. Ensure that cancer family summaries are ready in a timely Performance and Admin
manner and that information is complete and accurate when forwarded to clinical staff for risk assessment, Manager
including preparation of pre-clinic reports where families are due to attend consultant or counsellor clinics.
• Provide accurate and timely entry of Family History data onto in house patient database (Trakgene)
• Request appropriate information from a variety of sources at other sites as necessary e.g. histology reports
