SYNOPSIS
TITLE

Redevelopment Coimbatore Junction Railway station (CBE), Coimbatore

INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND O F THE STUDY:


• Coimbatore Junction, a crucial railway intersection in Tamil Nadu, is essential for both local
and long-distance travel, serving as a gateway to the region's industrial and commercial hub.
• With the increasing passenger footfall and evolving urban landscape, the station's
infrastructure and amenities may require upgrading to meet modern standards.
• The redevelopment aims to enhance passenger experiences, streamline operations, and
integrate seamlessly with other modes of transportation for improved connectivity.
• This study delves into assessing the station's current limitations, proposing comprehensive
upgrades, and preserving its cultural and historical significance.
• By transforming Coimbatore Junction, the project seeks to create a modern, efficient, and
sustainable transportation hub that aligns with the city's growth trajectory.

NEED F O R THE STUDY:


• The growing population, urbanization, and economic activities in Coimbatore demand a
comprehensive redevelopment of its railway junction to cater to the increasing transportation
needs.
• Outdated infrastructure, inadequate facilities, and congestion issues call for urgent attention
to ensure seamless travel and enhance passenger satisfaction.
• The integration of Coimbatore Junction with various modes of transit is crucial to promote
multimodal connectivity, reduce congestion, and improve overall accessibility.
• The study is essential to address these pressing issues, creating a modern, efficient, and

AIMS AND O B J E C T I V E S :
Aim: To revitalize Coimbatore Junction through comprehensive redevelopment, aligning the
station with modern travel demands and urban development.
Objectives:
Enhance passenger facilities, waiting areas, and amenities.
Integrate multimodal transportation for seamless connectivity.
Preserve heritage while embracing sustainable design principles.

S C O P E AND THRUST:
Scope: The scope encompasses the transformation of Coimbatore Junction into a
contemporary transportation hub with upgraded infrastructure, enhanced passenger
amenities, and integrated multimodal connectivity.
Thrust: The project focuses on creating a harmonious blend of functionality and heritage
preservation, fostering economic growth through commercial opportunities, and contributing
to sustainable urban development in the region.

LIMITATIONS:
Budgetary Constraints: The implementation of an ambitious redevelopment plan, especially one
with multimodal integration, might face limitations due to financial constraints, potentially
affecting the extent and pace of project execution.
Logistical Challenges: Coordinating the redevelopment while ensuring minimal disruption to
ongoing train operations and maintaining passenger flow within a congested urban environment
can pose logistical challenges.
Regulatory Approvals: Navigating through complex regulatory processes and obtaining
necessary approvals from various authorities could lead to delays and modifications in the
proposed plan. Encroachment of land
Community Concerns: Balancing the aspirations of local communities, heritage preservation,
and modernization could lead to conflicts, requiring careful engagement and consensus-building
efforts.

SITE/ SITE JUSTIFICATION:


Site is located in Coimbatore junction,Coimbatore.
The Coimbatore Junction stands as a pivotal link
in South India's railway network. Surrounded
by the region's vibrant urban landscape,
the station serves as a gateway to commerce,
culture, and connectivity.
Site Area : 30 acres

BROAD REQUIREMENTS:
Parking MLCP +Platforms, Concourse Area, Waiting Halls , Multi-storey buildings ,Passenger
Amenities,Commercial Spaces, Ticketing Zone, Security Areas, Foyers and Entrances,
Footbridges and Subways, Lounge Area and Kiosks , Transport Integration Points,

• Visvesvaraya Railway, Bangalore
• Turbhe Railway Station, mumbai

LIVE PROPOSAL:
The Redevelopment envisions a modernized
transportation hub catering to the city's evolving
needs. Upgraded platforms, passenger amenities,
and commercial spaces will enhance convenience
and comfort. Seamless integration with other
modes of transit will ensure efficient connectivity,
while sustainability features and preservation of
heritage elements create a harmonious blend of
progress and tradition. The project aspires to
transform Coimbatore Junction into a dynamic,
passenger-centric gateway fostering economic
growth and urban development.
