1. INTRODUCTION
This document is the User Manual of the Service Terminal application for the equipment of
the Eliop Series 5. It is also known as TS-5. This user manual corresponds to the version of the
1.5 application directed toward equipment with Telecontrol Remote Station functionality as
well as the SCP-5 Control and Protection System. The menus and functionalities available in
the Service Terminal may vary according to the type of field equipment to which they are
connected and the user profile. This manual covers all the menus and possibilities offered by
the Service Terminal in order to cover all the equipment of the Series 5.
The TS-5 application provides functionalities at the monitoring level: display of values
captured in real time, configuration parameters, events, chronological and historical registries
and protection status.
In addition, it can be used to operate directly on a unit according to the user level, allowing the
modification of configuration parameters, execute commands or digital outputs of equipment,
changes of sets of protection parameterization, etc.
As a result of this application, the administration of the Series 5 equipment configuration can
be carried out remotly. The TS-5 allows to download new configurations, PLC files and
programs executed in the equipment. The update of this equipment program enables
equipment services to be improved and the update to subsequent versions with a larger
number of functions.
The installation of the TS-5 application only requires a standard PC and Windows family
Operating System. This circumstance converts the TS-5 into an adequate application to be
installed in laptops, which make this available at the installation site, as well as in desktops
which can be connected to remote field equipment through a modem or LAN/WAN network.
The USER-5 user management application is distributed together with the TS-5, which allows
to establish different levels of responsibility and access for each of the different types of
persons who should work with the terminal.
CONDOR-5 Equipment with Control, Fault Indicator and Protection functions for
their location on poles of the overhead electric system. There are two
models with different functionalities for /R and /S reconnectors and
disconnecting switches.
SHERPA/TO ELIOP Operation Terminal belonging to the SHERPA family for the
operation of an installation through basic SCADA synoptics and
functionality. This should be supplied independently.
The telecontrol equipment will normally be linked through another higher level concentrator
unit or directly with a SCADA situated in the Control Center, to which all the information of
the installation to be controlled is sent. In addition, there are another series of functions,
separated from the complete telecontrol system, and which are required to be carried out on
the equipment on a sporadic basis, such as configuration, commissioning, troubleshooting,
etc. These functions can be carried out through the Service Terminal.
Access to the different functions of the TS-5 is supervised through a system which considers
up to three different types of users: Administrator, Operator or Monitor. User access,
according to one profile or another, is controlled through a password system. Each user has
authorization to carry out a different number of functions in relation to his profile. Users with
Administrator profile can carry out all the functions offered by the equipment without any
restrictions of any kind.
The installation of the TS-5 application also installs the USER-5 application which allows to
manage the different users and their access levels. The use of this application is explained in
Section No. 4 of this manual.
2.2.1 Monitoring
The monitoring functions of a system allows to access all the information. These functions do
not include the operation of the equipment or modification of its configuration.
The Monitor profile is adequate in most cases in which the TS-5 application is used, in which
it is only wished to observe the operation of the system. This profile guarantees to the user
that he will not interfere in the operation of the system, carry out commands on the field
equipment or modify its configuration.
The main functions directed toward the monitoring of the equipment are the following:
l Access to information in real time of the analogue signals and values of the equipment or
received by this, of the value as well as of the parameters associated with these, quality
(manual value, automatic value, etc.).
l Access to chronological data of any equipment through the reading of the registry
archives.
l Reading of the System hour/date.
l Display of System events and alarms.
l Display of the equipment configuration, parameters and other options used by the
equipment.
l Retrieval of the configuration files of a unit.
l Display of the protection function status and operation.
l Display of the protection configuration parameters.
2.2.2 Control
The Control functions allow to operate on the System, carrying out commands on the signals
controlled by a unit, either of the digital type, such as commands, or analogue type, such as
setpoints.
2.2.3 Administration
The System Administration functions allow to modify its configuration. In case of Series 5
equipment, this administration covers from the updating of the application being carried out in
the equipment up to downloading of a configuration carried out for a determined installation,
including the PLC programs.
Administration work is one of the most delicate jobs and in which the most problems may
occur in case of incorrect management. For this reason, the Administrator profile should be
granted solely to those users with an advanced knowledge of the Service Terminal application
as well as the execution environment of this.
3. INSTALLATION
The TS-5 application should be installed in a PC-type computer with Windows operating
system. The installation procedure is automatic and is carried out from an executable file,
which is supplied in CD-ROM format.
The TS-5 application as well as the installation procedure are available in several languages,
including Spanish and English.
Although not indispensable, it is recommended that you close all open files in your PC. The
execution of the application program of the TS-5 program is initiated on double-clicking the
TS-5-32c.exe file. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
Following, the location of the destination folder of the installation files should be selected.
Folder C:\Archivos de programa\Eliop\TS5 is established as the default location. If it is
required to adjust the default destination, push the Browse button to select a new location.
On selecting the new location, click the Next button. The progress of the installation is
indicated with a progress bar.
The installation creates a direct access icon on the PC desktop, in order to allow the user to
start the application directly through a double-click.
The application can also be accessed through the desktop Start button, by selecting the
Programs option and then the ELIOP folder. The USER-5 program also appears with the TS-5
application for the management and configuration of the different users who may access the
Service Terminal. The operation of the USER-5 application is explained in the next section.
The user management application can be accessed from the Start button of the taskbar and
then selecting the ELIOP folder. The user should then click on the USER-5 program icon.
The name of the user and the key installed by default is ADM. Entry of characters in the Key
field of the window is masked by asterisks in order to prevent anyone else from knowing the
key and making improper use of the administration rights.
It is recommended that the key of this user be changed as soon as possible given that, if this is
not done, any user who knows the user's name and default key can gain access to the
application with Administrator category.
If the user's name or key entered is incorrect, an alert window appears which requires that the
user reenter the information or abandon the application.
In addition to the text introduction fields, the window has the following buttons:
l Delete: Allows to eliminate all information entered previously in the text fields of the
window.
l Apply: The information introduced is valid and is stored in the database of the application.
If any field is not completed, such as the profile, an alert box is presented to the user for
the information to be completed.
l Close: The information entered up to the time on the new user is lost, with this user not
being included in the database.
Once a new user is entered, he appears with his particulars in the main window of the
application.
The modification will be carried out on the selected user in the main window by clicking the
mouse. The selection is denoted through a gray band.
l Change Key: A similar window to that of the previous section is opened where the key is
modified and the entry is repeated for verification.
l Delete User: The selected user is deleted. The application requests confirmation from the
user through the presentation of a message box.
4.2.3 Exit
This option allows to abandon the USER-5 application.
Before closing, the application requests confirmation to store the changes made in the user
database, presenting the following options:
l Yes: The changes are stored in the database.
l No: The application is abandoned without the changes being stored.
l Cancel: The application is not exited and the user is returned to the main window.
In case it is used as a service terminal of a unit which uses the ELITEL-5 hardware platform, it
is recommended that it be connected to the available port at the front of the equipment. This
is the port configured by default in the equipment for communication with the TS-5.
The connection will normally be carried out by cable through an RS-232 serial port between a
COM serial port of the PC (normally DB-9 male) and a port with DB-9 connector of the
equipment. In case of using a 25-pin connector, a standard 9-pin converter can be used.
It is necessary to know the port configured in the equipment for communication with the TS-
5, its rate, parity and number of bits.
The TS-5 accommodates the rate and format set in the telecontrol equipment configuration.
This adjustment is not automatic for which it is necessary to introduce this data in the TS-5
application in order to establish communication. The documentation supplied with the
equipment provides this information.
A special case occurs when the telecontrol equipment does not have the configuration loaded
in its memory. In this case, the equipment adopts a “default” configuration, which allows to
communicate to the TS-5 with a unit at a rate of 9600 bauds, with a character format of 8 non-
parity bits and 1 stop bit.
The TS-5 program itself offers a menu which allows to select the serial path to be used and its
characteristics. It should be ensured that the port specified in this menu coincides with that
actually connected and that the rate and character format coincide with those of the equipment
configuration. This fact is explained in more detail in the section dedicated to the use of
communications ports of the TS-5.
Following is a photo of the two Series 5 units with the location of the connector for
communication with the TS-5 Service Terminal in the front panel and directly in the module.
The serial port connector in the computer is normally located in the rear part, with this being
the male DB-9 type.
UCP-5 unit TS-5 connector in front panel Remote ELITEL-5 TS-5 connector in module
Following, photos of the two Series 5 modules with the location of the Ethernet connector are
shown through which the TS-5 Service Terminal can be connected. This Ethernet connection
is valid in order that several applications, in addition to the TS-5, can be simultaneously
connected to the equipment, each through a different logical port, or to carry out different
functions (SCADA connection or with other Series 5 equipment or that of other
manufacturers).
The photos shown are of two of the modules which allow connection through fiber optics or
braided pair at 10Mbps (10BaseT and 10BaseF).
5.4 Connect
Once the application is started, the connection process with the telecontrol equipment does
not start automatically but rather the Connect option should be selected. If this is done
immediately after starting the application, the default configuration of the TS-5 is used for the
connection, serial port or Ethernet port, rate, address and other communications
characteristics.
In case it is required to carry out the connection through a different port, a different Ethernet
address or with other characteristics, the connection configuration should be modified in the
Configuration of TS-5 + Communications + Serial connection // Ethernet connection
menu. The configuration procedure of the connection is explained below.
In case that the TS-5 cannot be connected with the telecontrol equipment, the application
presents the following message box.
If this occurs, all the essential points for the connection should be reviewed step by step:
l Communications cable connected to the computer port and telecontrol equipment.
l There is no other application occupying the same communications port of the PC used by
the Service Terminal (in this case, there may be a conflict between the TS-5 and another
application, which should be closed before continuing).
l Telecontrol equipment with power supply and connected. It should be verified if the led
of the power supply is on. In case there is an LCD screen in the front panel, it should be
verified that the information presented indicates a correct startup.
l Configuration of the connection in the TS-5. The menu option should be selected in the
application window: Configuration of TS-5 + Communications + Serial connection //
Ethernet connection // Connection from list according to the type of connection to be
established.
Serial connection
In case of making the connection through the serial port, the option should be selected in the
menu: Configuration of TS-5 + Communications + Serial connection.
Once selected, the following window opens, which presents the configuration options of the
serial port. It is necessary to select the characteristics corresponding to the configuration of
the Series 5 equipment with which it is required to communicate, with special attention to the
Port name (COM1 to COM4), Rate (300 to 115,200), Parity (Even, Uneven, None), Data bits
(7 or 8) and Link address (that of the equipment). Detailed information regarding the use of
these fields is provided in Section 6.3.1.
Once the connection is configured, the Apply button should be clicked. If it is not required to
apply the changes made in the configuration, the Close button should be clicked.
Ethernet connection
In case of making the connection through the Ethernet port by braided pair or fiber optics, the
following option should be selected in the menu: Configuration of TS-5 + Communications
+ Ethernet connection.
Once selected, the following window is opened with the configuration options of the Ethernet
port. The Ethernet address of the equipment, the TCP port and link address of the equipment
with which it is required to communicate should be selected. More detailed information
regarding these fields is provided in Section 6.3.1 of this manual.
Once the connection is configured, the Apply button should be clicked. If it is not required to
apply the changes made in the configuration, the Close button should be clicked.
The selection of the Connection from list submenu option releases the presentation of the
Available configurations window, which allows to select a communications configuration with
a determined telecontrol unit from the list of possible communications configurations stored in
the TS-5: Configuration of TS-5 + Communications + Connection from List.
The list of configurations presents the name of each configuration, type, configuration date,
the “checksum” associated with the configuration and the version.
The selected configuration is activated on selecting a configuration from the list and clicking
the Accept button. Clicking the Cancel button closes the window without activating any
configuration from the list of configurations.
Once all the previous points have been reviewed, to retry the connection the following menu
option should be selected: Equipment + Connect
The application will retry to connect with the equipment. In case communication with the
equipment is not successful, the previous steps should be reviewed and ELIOP's Technical
Assistance Service (TAS) should be contacted.
Once connected, the first thing the TS-5 does is verify if it has the equipment configuration
data stored and if it does not, it recovers the equipment configuration.
While starting the program, a window identifying the version can be seen. This user manual
corresponds to version 1.5 of the TS-5.
1. Window frame with the name and version of the application. It has three buttons for
standard use in Windows applications: Minimize, Maximize or Restore and Close.
2. Application menu. The pull-down menu of the application allows to access different
functions offered by the TS-5.
3. Status Bar. The lower part of the main window of the application shows the status bar. It
contains the following information:
u Two last incidents received by the TS-5, indicating the type of incident, equipment which
originated it, date and hour of the incident and additional information.
u Equipment to which the application is connected.
u Name of user registered in the TS-5 at the time.
u Type of connection with the telecontrol equipment: Serial or Ethernet (in this case, the
address of the equipment to which it is connected is shown).
u If the TS-5 is presently in communication with the equipment or not.
u Date and hour of the equipment to which the TS-5 is connected.
The following image shows the complete status bar:
The following figure shows a detail of the left side of the status bar, with the connected
equipment and the user:
Detail of the left side of the status bar which shows the type of connection, the status of this, the
date and hour of the telecontrol equipment:
The two lower lines of the window with the last two events can be seen in the image. The
information of each event is indicated in the corresponding section of this manual.
The first window shown requests confirmation whether or not it is required to change the user.
Following, a data entry window of a new user is presented, which contains fields for the entry of
the User's name and the Key assigned through the USER-5 application, described previously in
this manual.
The application validates the entered information, verifying it with the USER-5 application
database, to confirm the validity of the user as well as of the key furnished. In case of entering
the name of a user not included in the database or an incorrect key the following error window
will appear on the screen:
Once the correct user name and key are entered and validated by the application, the user name is
included in the corresponding field of the taskbar, confirming the access level available.
If it is required to cancel the change user operation, it is only necessary to select the Cancel
button to return to the Main window with the previously registered user.
Chapter 7 includes a table with the different menus which can be accessed according to the type
of user (Administrator, Operator or Monitor).
6.2.2 Preferences
The user may enable or disable this option. The enabled status is represented with a frame when
selected and the absence of this when it is not. In case that the option is selected, all changes
entered by the user in the TS-5 configuration will be considered, such that they will be stored by
the TS-5 when this user leaves the application. Thus, the next time that this user uses the
application, it will start with the last configuration stored by this user.
6.2.3 Quit
The last option of the user menu allows to exit and close the application. Before exiting, user
confirmation will be requested through the following window:
If the Accept button is selected, the application closes, presenting the following message box. If
the TS-5 is connected to any field equipment, the application ends the connection before closing.
In case that the Preferences option is marked, the changes are stored in the configuration for the
actual user.
If the Cancel button is selected, it will return to the main Window of the application.
6.3.1 Communications
The Communications submenu allows to configure the communication port of the TS-5 with the
Telecontrol equipment. From version 1.4, the connection through the serial port and through an
Ethernet network is available.
l Carrier prologue (s/100): This is the deferral time between the carrier establishment and the
start of communication transmission. The value is expressed in hundredths of a second.
l Carrier epilogue (s/100): This is the time that the carrier is maintained once the information
has been transmitted through the port. The value is expressed in hundredths of a second.
l Number of retries: This is the number of times that the application attempts to connect with
the equipment before informing the user of the connection failure.
l Time between retries (s/100): This is the time, expressed in tenths of a second, which is
allowed to elapse between two connection retries.
l Length of link address: This is the number of bytes used in the link address of the equipment.
According to the profile of the IEC protocol used, this may be two or three. The most
common in the equipment of Series 5 is the value two.
l Link address: This is the address of the equipment with which communication will be made.
This address should coincide with that configured in the equipment. It is necessary to
establish this address to select the equipment with which communication will be made when
there are several units connected to the same serial bus, for example, when there are several
units connected to the same RS-485 bus.
l Length of link address: This is the number of bytes used in the link address of the equipment.
According to the profile of the IEC protocol used these may be two or three. The most
common case in the equipment of Series 5 is the value two.
l Link address: This is the address of the equipment with which we wish to communicate.
l IP address: This is the IP address of the communication port.
l TCP port: IP address connection port.
l Connection timeout: Maximum time of connection without interruption in milliseconds.
On selecting the desired options and clicking Apply, these values will be modified for the present
connection. If Close is selected, none of the changes made will be applied.
In case the Preferences option of the User menu is marked, this configuration will be stored in the
memory and will be the one used as default the next time that the TS-5 is started.
As was explained in the Main Window section, the last two events recorded in the equipment
always appear in the lower part of this window.
In addition to being accumulated in the list, the list of events can be printed out from the list
window, as will be shown later in this manual.
Also, the Parameters dialogue box of the TS-5 allows to establish the following operating
parameters of the TS-5:
l Supervision frequency of alarm communications: The value of this parameter indicates the
period of supervision with which the communication protocol with the field equipment
updates the information of the alarms list. This period is expressed in milliseconds. The
default value is 100 milliseconds.
l Size in bytes of the segments which form the files transferred between the field equipment
and the TS-5 during downloading operations. The default value is 200 bytes.
l Synchronization checking option of the equipment with which the TS-5 communicates. This
option is activated by default, which means that the TS-5 checks the synchronization of the
date and hour maintained by the equipment with which it communicates.
l Establishment option of a validity time limit (“timeout”) for the data contained in a time-
variable data list window.
l TS-5 start option with a user with administrator mode. In case this option is activated, the
name of this administrator user and his key should be entered in the User and Password
fields.
l An option which allows to connect the TS-5, on starting the application, with the equipment
whose connection parameters are stored by default. These default connection parameters are
established in the dialogue boxes described in the Connection through the serial port and
Connection through the Ethernet port sections.
6.4.1 Connection
This option (Equipment + Connect) should be selected to start the connection with a unit.
The TS-5 first checks if it has the equipment configuration in memory. If it does not or this has
changed from the last time, it proceeds to recover it from the equipment, as the following figure
shows.
In case that the connection with the equipment is successfully established, the status of the
connection changes to Communicating in the status bar of the application.
6.4.2 Disconnect
The selection of this option (Equipment + Disconnect) allows to terminate the communication
with the equipment. To reestablish a connection with a unit, it is necessary to reselect the
Connect submenu option from the Equipment menu.
6.4.3 Operate
This option of the Equipment menu (Equipment + Operate) is probably the most important of
the application, since all the monitoring and operation tasks offered by the Series-5 equipment
can be carried out from the windows accessed through this option.
The organization of the options within this submenu corresponds to the Series 5 architecture.
The Series 5 architecture classifies the digital signals into three differentiated entities:
l Physical Digital Inputs and Outputs: They represent the physical magnitudes which are
obtained directly from the field environment.
l Digital Input and Output Signals: Each to which one or several physical I/O or also logic
signals can be associated.
u The most common types of input are:
• Single inputs,
• Counter inputs,
• Double inputs,
• Sextuple inputs,
• Numerical inputs (binary, gray, BCD, 1/N type).
u The most common outputs are:
• single,
• oscillator,
• single and double impulse.
l Digital Input and Output Elements: Used when more complex or elaborate treatment than
those offered by the signals is required. In its configuration, each element covers the input
and output signals it uses. In addition to the predefined elements, such as T type bistable,
set/reset, single security outputs, supervised, double supervised digital/numerical/analogue
input and outputs with selection, the user may define his own elements.

The previous figure covers the relationship between the different functional objects of the digital
input/output system of the Series 5 equipment.
The Operate option of the Equipment menu in turn presents the following submenus.
The selection of the Equipment + Operate + Physical I/O option originates the on-screen
presentation of a window from which the physical inputs and outputs of the equipment can be
monitored.
Each of the physical input and output modules is arranged in a row, forming the following
columns:
l Identifier of the module: This is a numerical code which allows to define the input and
output on an unmistakable basis. For simplicity, it is tended to be used as an identifier of
the module position in the chassis of the field equipment.
l Type of module: Refers to the signals handled by this, digital inputs, digital outputs,
analogue inputs, analogue outputs, etc.
l Module status: This may be operational, when operating correctly, and nonoperational,
when not installed in the chassis or otherwise (although in the configuration) or presents
any other type of error which impedes its normal operation.
In order to see in detail the situation of each module, it is sufficient to select this in the list and
click the Detail button, which presents a window in which the type and position of the module
selected is shown in the upper part.
The window of the list of modules has a Save button which allows to store the data which is
presented in the window in a file. If the Save button is selected, a standard Windows Save as
dialogue box is shown, through which the user can select the disk unit, directory and file name in
which to save the data. The format adopted for saving will be text type, with a physical I/O per
line and the physical I/O data arranged in columns and separated by a tab character.
On selecting the Close button of the window, this is closed and the Main window is shown.
The detail windows are different according to the type of module selected. The different possible
detail windows are shown below.
The Detail window of a Digital input module contains the following "read only" information (its
values cannot be modified from the TS-5):
l Scanning rate, expressed in ms, of the digital inputs of this module in the field equipment.
l Module status: Indicates whether or not operational at the time. An illuminated green led
indicates that the module is operational. Otherwise, the module is not operational and a gray
led is illuminated indicating that it is disconnected.
l Physical value of each of the digital inputs. If the led representing each of the inputs is gray
indicating disconnected, it is that the physical input does not register voltage. Otherwise, a
green led will be illuminated.
On clicking the Close button, this closes the window and allows to return to the Physical I/O
window.
The module presented in the following figure is a module of 16 digital inputs. The number and
arrangement of the indicators of the physical value in the window may vary according to the
subtype of the digital input module.
The Detail window of a Digital Output module contains the following "read only" information (its
values cannot be modified from the TS-5):
l Module status, which indicates whether or not operational at the time. An illuminated green
led indicates that the module is operational. Otherwise, a led is gray indicates that it is
disconnected.
l Physical value of each of the digital outputs. If the led representing each of the inputs is off it
is because the output relay is not activated; otherwise, the led will be green, indicating it is
connected. The number and arrangement of the physical value indicators in the window may
vary according to the subtype of the digital output module.
In this case there is no scanning rate, since the execute command of each signal varies according
to its configuration.
On clicking the Close button of the window, it closes and returns to the Physical I/O window.
The Detail window of an analogue Input module contains the following "read only" information
(its values cannot be modified from the TS-5):
l Module status: Indicates whether or not operational at the time. An illuminated green led
indicates that the module is operational. Otherwise, the module is not operational, and a gray
led is illuminated indicating that it is disconnected.
l Physical value of each of the analogue inputs: The numerical value of each signal is
represented in a text field.
On clicking the Close button of the window this closes and returns to the Physical I/O window.
The Detail window of an Analogue outputs module contains the following "read only"
information (its values cannot be modified from the TS-5):
l Module status: Indicates whether or not it is operational at the time of a query. An
illuminated green led indicates that the module is operational. Otherwise, the module is not
operational and a gray led is illuminated indicating that it is disconnected.
l Physical value or setpoint value of each of the analogue outputs: The numerical value of each
signal is represented in a text field.
On clicking the Close button of the window, this closes and returns to the Physical I/O window.
The number and arrangement of the physical value indicators in the window may vary according
to the subtype of the analogue output module.
6.4.3.2 Signals
The selection of the Equipment + Operate + Signals option releases the on-screen presentation
of a window from which different windows associated with different types of signals which can
be configured can be viewed.
The following are the different fields of the list, represented in columns:
l Identifier: This is the code which defines a signal on an unmistakable basis.
l Type: This is the type of input signal. The most common input types are:
u Single inputs,
u Counter inputs,
u Double inputs,
u Sextuple inputs,
u Numerical inputs (binary, Gray, BCD, 1/N type).
l Name: Field which contains a significant string of text assigned to the signal.
l Working mode: May be
u Automatic, the value and status of the signal in the field is shown, or
u Manual, the user fixes a determined value for this signal.
l Status: A signal may be enabled, disabled or in an illegal or mismatched condition.
The list of digital inputs window is provided with a Save button which allows to store the data
presented in the window in a file. If the Save button is clicked, a Windows standard "Save as"
dialogue box appears, through which the user can easily choose the disk unit, the directory and
the file name in which to save the data. The format adopted for the save will be of the text type,
with one entry per line and the data of each entry (identifier, type, name, working mode and
status) separated by a tab character. The file extension of the list of signals is .DAT, by default.
On selecting the Close button of the window, this closes and returns to the Main window.
On selecting a determined signal and clicking the Detail button, a window appears containing the
signal configuration characteristics, in addition to the data of the previous list.
It can be seen that there are three buttons in the lower part of the window: Command, Change
mode and Close. These three buttons are common to most of the signal windows.
If the Command button is clicked, the Command window appears, which allows to change the
signal value. A Command window is shown below.
l Activation buttons (“radio”) which allows to alternate the value of the signal between the
possible values for the type of signal. In case of a single input, the possible values are
Enabled and Disabled.
l Command button, which validates the changes and executes the command on the field
equipment, and Cancel, which cancels the changes and allows to return to the Detail window
of the signal. IMPORTANT: If the Command button is clicked, the Service Terminal shows a
confirmation window of the command, such that the user has the possibility of canceling the
transmission of the command to the field equipment.
On selecting the Change mode button, the operation mode of the selected signal can be modified.
It is possible to switch from automatic to manual mode or the vice versa. This window also
allows to enable or disable the signal if considered appropriate in the operation of the equipment.
This window contains the following fields:
l Signal identifier, value which may very between 0 and 65535. This field contains a
configuration parameter and, consequently, cannot be modified from the TS-5.
l “Led” which represents the present mode, Automatic or Manual, for the signal considered.
l Activation buttons which allow to alternate the working mode from the possible modes:
Manual or Automatic.
l Value, “read only” field, which contains the present value of the signal.
l Activation buttons which allows to alternate the signal value among the possible values for
the type of signal. In case of a single input, the possible values are Enable and Disable.
l Apply buttons, which validate the changes and carry out the change of operation mode over
the field equipment, and Cancel, which cancels the changes and allows to return to the Detail
window of the signal. IMPORTANT: If the Apply button is clicked, the Service Terminal
shows a change confirmation window, such that the user has the possibility of canceling the
transmission of the change of mode command to the field equipment.
As in the case of the Single input window, the Double input window is divided into three
different parts:
l Name of the signal, “read only” field, and which cannot be modified through the TS-5.
l Signal configuration parameters, which cannot be modified through the TS-5. Unlike the
single input, the configuration parameters include the number of the first input, of the two
which form a double input, and not the number of the individual input.
l Status and value of the signal in real time, either the Manual or Automatic working mode, or
its Unknown status, with inhibited alarms or otherwise. In the example of the figure, the
actual value for this signal is Illegal, due to that the status of the two signals of which the
double input is formed (in this case the position signals of a disconnecting switch) is
mismatched.
On selecting the Change mode button, we can modify the operation mode of the selected signal.
It is possible to change from Automatic to Manual, or vice versa (and enable or disable the signal
if considered appropriate in the operation of the equipment). The window also indicates the
present status of the signal.
The application requests confirmation before proceeding with the change of operation mode.
The Value field, in turn, is expressed in the units configured in the field of the same name.
There is no Command button in the Detail window of the counter inputs, but there is a Change
mode button. This window similarly presents the count value in the configured units.
As in the case for input signals, the fields of the detail windows of the digital outputs are grouped
in three parts:
l Name of signal.
l Configuration parameters of the signal such as the module to which it belongs and its
position, pulse time, whether it has positive or negative logic and whether or not it generates
events.
l Status in real time.
This window contains the groups of fields indicated previously: Name of signal, configuration
parameters and value.
As in the case of inputs, commands can be executed on the outputs with the Command button,
located in the lower part of the window, and the operation mode of the output, Automatic or
Manual, can be changed.
If the Command button is clicked, the command window appears, which allows to change the
signal value.
On selecting this button, confirmation of the execute command is requested through the
following window:
If the response is affirmative, the corresponding command is generated over the selected signal.
In case a command cannot be executed, the application is made known to the user through a
message box.
In this case, the rejection of the command is recorded in the equipment with the corresponding
event, as well as in the TS-5 application, in the lower part of the main window and also in the list
of events.
In the lower right part, the detail window of the single outputs also has a button which enables to
change the operation mode of an output. The change mode window of the digital outputs is the
same as the change mode window of the digital inputs.
The main difference with the previous window is that for the oscillator output the configuration
parameter which sets the oscillation time of the digital output is presented, expressed in
hundredths of a second. As in the remaining configuration parameters, this value cannot be
modified from the TS-5.
This window can be saved in the same way as digital signals. On clicking the Save button, a
Windows standard Save as dialogue box appears, which allows to select the location and name
of the file in text format where the list of signals will be stored. The file format consists of one
row for each signal of the window, with the fields of each row separated by tabs. The file
extension of the list of signals is .DAT, by default.
On selecting one of the analogue signals and clicking the Detail button, a window appears
showing the name, configuration parameters and present status of the signal. This grouping of
fields is kept constant, even when the different analogue input windows change slightly
depending on the type of input signal.
The window allows to see the analogue signal value in count format (Digital Analogue Converter
or DAC) as well as in engineering units, in the primary as well as secondary, in case of a
transformer outside the equipment.
The mode of an analogue signal can be changed to make it manual. This is particularly useful to
avoid the continuous transmission of alarms to a SCADA or Control Center, in case of a
measuring problem or failure of an external transducer.
On selecting the Change mode button, the change operation mode window allows to introduce
the required value for this signal.
In case that the monitored analogue signal is a phasor, the Change operation mode window is
that shown in the following screen:
This window allows to view the actual value of the phase in addition to the actual value of the
input signal module. Similarly, on activating the Manual mode, it allows to introduce the module
and phase values of the required phasor.
6.4.3.3 Elements
The following level within the logic architecture of Series 5 is that of elements. This is the highest
level, which groups the two previous levels: Physical inputs and outputs and signals.
The list of elements is similar to that shown for the previous cases and the fields are also identical.
The detail window is different according to the type of element, given that the configuration
parameters and status values are also different.
The Save, Detail and Close buttons, which show the same functionality described in previous
sections, also exist, as in the other list windows.
The possible elements are the following:
l T type bistable.
l R/S type bistable.
l Single security digital output.
l Supervised single digital impulsive output.
l Double digital impulsive output supervised by digital input.
l Double digital impulsive output supervised by numerical input.
l Double digital impulsive output supervised by analogue input.
l Digital impulsive output with selection.
In addition, the user can define his own elements in the configuration of the field equipment.
These user elements contain a logical expression defined from other signals configured in the
equipment. Consequently, the value of this element depends on the value of the start signals and
the ratio or algorithm established between these.
Given that the elements are built taking other signals already configured in the field equipment as
start data, the blocks of configuration parameters tend to show the types of input and output
signals through which the element has been formed.
The types of signals used in the elements and the identifiers which may appear in the detail
windows are described in the table of Section 8.
The two detail windows are similar to those described previously. The configuration fields of the
window which contain the types of inputs and outputs described in the previous section can be
observed in the figures.
The working mode can be changed from the detail window by clicking on the Change mode
button. The Close button is used to close the detail window and return to the list of elements
window.
This window is very similar to the detail windows of the previous T and R/S bistable elements.
However, unlike those of the bistable elements, it is possible to execute a command on the digital
output from this window by clicking the Command button.
The supervised outputs can be of different types, depending on the type of output (single or
double) and the type of supervisory signal. Thus, the following types of supervised outputs exist:
l Supervised single impulsive outputs.
l Double impulsive outputs supervised by digital input.
l Double impulsive outputs supervised by numerical input.
l Double impulsive outputs supervised by analogue input.
The types of monitoring signals of the outputs supervised by analogue input are indicated in the
table of Section 8.
On selecting the command button, the sequence of orders commences. Since it is a type of
signal with selection, the sequence should be the following:
l Confirm the command within the time configured as selection window time.
There may be elements defined by the user in the field equipment. These elements are associated
with an algorithm or logical expression which relates the value of other signals configured in the
equipment as single inputs.
The following figure shows the detail window of an element defined by the user. The Expression
field contains the string of characters which determines the algorithm to be executed by the
element defined by the user, in this case an OR logic between the values of three single digital
inputs (the first value of each signal is the type of input, the second value is the signal identifier.
The syntax used is postfix notation.
The following option within the Operate submenu, Registry archives, is used to monitor the
information of the registry archives which contain a field unit.
Each of the functional objects of the equipment of Series 5 can be configured to generate events
with chronological information over relevant events related to the object, which are stored in the
equipment and which can be transmitted to other equipment or to a control center.
The format of the event messages is the following and is explained in detail in the user manual of
the telecontrol equipment:
The options of this list of files are similar to those of the lists of signals, Save, Detail and Close.
All the events recorded by the equipment are stored in the general chronological archive. On
selecting this file and clicking on the Detail button, the General chronological filter window is
shown which allows to discriminate by date/hour the events to be presented in the list of events.
Once the initial and end dates and times are selected, clicking the Apply button produces the
uploading of the telecontrol equipment registry archive. If the Cancel button is clicked, the
Registry archive display screen reappears without uploading the equipment file.
The TS-5 Service Terminal shows the progress of the upload through a progress bar.
Once the complete file is received, the filed location and name selection window opens to store
this file in binary format and with the “.CRO” extension.
The registry in a window with indications of the registry status is shown in the following figure.
The precision of the time labeling of the events can reach up to a millisecond.
In case of the command registry, the archive has been configured as cyclical of 500 events.
On selecting the Communications ports submenu, the user has the opportunity to monitor the
status of the communications ports of the connected equipment.
On selecting this option, a window is opened with a list of available ports with the characteristics
of these ports. Note the information of the protocol presently assigned to the port in the Protocol
column.
The detail window, which is shown on the Detail button being selected in the list of ports
window, shows the name, parameters and status of the port communications in real time.
The Additional Data column contains information which allows to clarify the type and meaning
of the event. If the event received does not contain this type of information, nothing is shown in
this column.
The window has several buttons which allow to manage the list of events. The Delete button
deletes all the events from the list (IMPORTANT: No confirmation is requested to the user once
the Delete button is clicked).
The Print button which contains a printable format of the list of events. A preview window of the
printout is shown in the following.
On clicking the Print button of this window, a printer selection window is shown, which enables
the selection and configuration of the printer to be used and sends the report of the list of events
to the print queue of the selected printer.
The window also contains a Save button which allows to store in a file the report data of the
window. The user can select the unit, directory and file name where to save the data through a
Windows standard Save dialogue box.
On clicking the Close button, the list of events window is left and the main window of the
application is shown.
The Service Terminal allows to reboot the field equipment on a remote basis through
communications. The Reboot equipment window allows to select a unit from the list of
connected equipment, with it being possible to opt for three different types of reboots:
l Cold: All the memory of the equipment is erased, for which during the startup of the
equipment all the alarms and events corresponding to an initialization situation are originated.
The date/hour of the equipment is initialized as a default value and it may be necessary to
make a date/hour change immediately after the cold reboot. IMPORTANT: The events and
alarms recorded after the startup and before a new date/hour is established will be labeled
with the default date/hour.
l Warm: The equipment starts with the information of its present status being kept in memory.
Consequently, the equipment does not undergo any loss of any prior information or of the
date/hour. Thus, it will not generate initialization events or alarms, but only those of the
normal operation of the equipment.
l Download executable file: Once the executable file has been downloaded to a control
equipment, this should be rebooted. This is the option to be selected.
Once the required type of startup is selected, the reboot of the corresponding equipment is
carried out through the Apply button. The Service Terminal application will then show a window
through which the user will be requested to confirm or cancel the execute command.
Communication with the TS-5 will be lost on rebooting the equipment, as is shown in the
following figure.
If the Close button of the window is clicked, the main window returns without ordering any type
of reboot of the equipment.
The Service Terminal allows to modify the hour of the equipment, as well as the seasonal change
(increase or decrease of one hour in summer and winter), in case required in the country of
installation.
The change will take effect on clicking the Apply button, while if the Close button is clicked, no
modification will be made in the destination equipment.
If in the Change to summer and Change to winter fields the 30/12 date is maintained, this will
indicate that the equipment should not make any type of time adjustment due to a seasonal
change. This parameterization will be applicable according to the final location of installation of
the telecontrol equipment.
Pushing the Now button fills the New Date/hour fields of the window with the date and hour of
the computer in which the TS-5 application is carried out.
6.4.4 Manage
The Manage submenu corresponding to the Equipment menu is reserved for a user with
Administrator profile.
It allows to download in the equipment and upload from the equipment the configuration, PLC
or executive files of the equipment.
The following figure shows the different options of this submenu.
To carry out the download of the different types of files, the file to be downloaded should be
selected through a Windows standard file selection dialogue box. This dialogue box allows to
select the unit, directory and file name to be downloaded. The file extensions assigned by the
application are “.cnf” (configuration file), “.aut” (automate) and “.exe” (executive).
Similarly, when a file is uploaded, the user is also offered the possibility of selecting the unit,
directory and name of the uploaded file. This allows to maintain a backup file of the equipment
configurations.
6.5.2 Mosaic
This option distributes the onscreen open windows in order to distribute them in the desktop
space of the Main Window.
Consequently, all the windows are visible and do not overlap. This option is useful when the
number of open windows is not very high and it is wished to view the information of different
windows simultaneously.
6.5.3 Cascade
On selecting the Cascade mode of display of the windows, these are distributed in the desktop
space of the Main Window such that they are superimposed over each other.
Thus, only the active window is seen in its entirety, with only the title bar of the remainder being
seen, which may be activated and transferred to the foreground with a mouse click on the title
bar. This option is useful when the number of open windows is high and it is wished to switch
from one to another quickly.
6.5.4 Close
This option allows to close all open windows of the application contained in the Main Window
frame.
