Foreword
D
The descriptions and service procedures contained in this manual are based on designs
and methods studies carried out up to October 07.
The products are under continuous development. Vehicles and components produced
after the above date may therefore have different specifications and repair methods.
When this is judged to have a significant bearing on this manual, supplementary service
bulletins will be issued to cover the changes.
Service procedures which do not include an operation number in the title are for general
information and no reference is made to V.S.T.
The following levels of observations, cautions and warnings are used in this Service
Documentation:
Note: Indicates a procedure, practice, or condition that must be followed in order to have
the vehicle or component function in the manner intended.
Caution: Indicates an unsafe practice where damage to the product could occur.
Warning: Indicates an unsafe practice where personal injury or severe damage to the
product could occur.
Danger: Indicates an unsafe practice where serious personal injury or death could occur.

Blocked mode
Blocked mode
When the control unit has discovered a fault in any of the
central valves (the valve in a solenoid valve assembly that
is connected to the pressure tank) or the pressure sensor,
the system is set to blocked mode. Blocked mode means
that the automatic drive height position control ceases
completely and that the control box takes on redefined
functions.

Abnormally high current or short circuit to ground. Incorrect response from the mechanical system.
Conditions for fault code: Conditions for fault code:
• Abnormally high current or short circuit to ground. • The solenoid valve does not empty/fill as it should be.
Possible cause: • Pressure sensor not registering any change.
• Faulty solenoid valve. • The solenoid valve has stuck (mechanically) in the
open/closed position.
Reaction from the control unit:
• The vehicle may lean over. • If the solenoid valve is closed: the system has no
control of the vehicle height.

NOTE!
• Read off other fault codes for the ECS system. If any
of the other solenoid valves also has an active fault
code, it is probable that the fault is on one of the
common wires, refer to wiring diagram.
WARNING
When working on the ECS system, it is important
that the upper switch in the control box is in the
drive position (position 2, AUT) when the starter key
is in the stop position. This prevents the vehicle
from automatically controlling the level while work
is in progress.

of the other pressure sensors also has an active fault
code, it is probable that the fault is on one of the
common wires, refer to wiring diagram.
WARNING
When working on the ECS system, it is important
that the upper switch in the control box is in the
drive position (position 2, AUT) when the starter key
is in the stop position. This prevents the vehicle
from automatically controlling the level while work
is in progress.

Note: If any of the values below are faulty, they may
have caused the component to be damaged, so perform
a check of the component as well.
Check that the power supply from the control unit reaches
the pressure sensor.

To check that the fault has been rectified use the PC tool
test (see “Tests that can be carried out in the PC tool”
page 74).

General information
In the event of a fault in the tridem switch the control
unit assumes that the switch is still in the last selected
position. If the fault disappears, resetting is carried out
automatically.

Possible cause: • The function for the front axle load limitation ceases.
Appropriate check:
• Level sensor arm damaged.
• Signal cable short circuited to voltage. • Check that the sensor installation is correct and has
no play.
• Open circuit in the ground wire.
