Foreword

D
The descriptions and service procedures contained in this manual are based on designs
and methods studies carried out up to October 07.

The products are under continuous development. Vehicles and components produced
after the above date may therefore have different specifications and repair methods.
When this is judged to have a significant bearing on this manual, supplementary service
bulletins will be issued to cover the changes.

The new edition of this manual will update the changes.

In service procedures where the title incorporates an operation number, this is a
reference to V.S.T. (Volvo Standard Times).

Service procedures which do not include an operation number in the title are for general
information and no reference is made to V.S.T.

The following levels of observations, cautions and warnings are used in this Service
Documentation:

Note: Indicates a procedure, practice, or condition that must be followed in order to have
the vehicle or component function in the manner intended.

Caution: Indicates an unsafe practice where damage to the product could occur.
Warning: Indicates an unsafe practice where personal injury or severe damage to the
product could occur.

Danger: Indicates an unsafe practice where serious personal injury or death could occur.

Blocked mode
Blocked mode
When the control unit has discovered a fault in any of the
central valves (the valve in a solenoid valve assembly that
is connected to the pressure tank) or the pressure sensor,
the system is set to blocked mode. Blocked mode means
that the automatic drive height position control ceases
completely and that the control box takes on redefined
functions.

The redefined functions of the control box are described in

more detail in the table below. Vehicles are only equipped
with one solenoid valve and one level sensor at the front.
D
The simplest way to put the vehicle in blocked mode is to
disconnect one of the rear axle level sensor connectors.

Resetting from blocked mode, once the fault has

disappeared, occurs next time the starter key is turned to
drive.

MID 150 PSID 15 Calibration memory front axle load limitation

General information
This fault code describes internal faults in the EEPROM.

Component: A 16 Control unit, ECS (electronically

controlled suspension)

D
Fault code

FMI 13
Value outside calibration value.
Conditions for fault code:

Front axle load sensor not calibrated.

Front axle load sensor incorrectly calibrated.

Possible cause:
Incorrectly performed calibration of the front axle load
sensor.

• The front axle load sensor never calibrated.

Reaction from the control unit:

• The control unit assumes the front axle is overloaded.

Noticeable external symptoms:

• Extra axle cannot be lifted.

Appropriate check:

• Calibrate.

• Perform test “76405-2 Air suspension control unit input

- output signal status, test”.

MID 150 PSID 16 Switch additional functions

General information
Note: Applies to vehicles with 3-way switch only. If the
fault ceases, resetting is performed automatically.

D
Fault code

FMI 7
Incorrect response from the mechanical system.
Conditions for fault code:

The control unit registers that the switch gives two
positions at the same time.
Possible cause:
Faulty tridem switch.

• Short circuit to ground in the cable harness between

the control unit and control box.
Reaction from the control unit:

• The system does not react if the switch position

changes.
Appropriate check:

• Perform test “72885-2 Air suspension control unit input

- output signal status, test”.

MID 150 PSID 17 Level sensor, front axle load limitation

General information
The front axle level sensor can be located on either the
left or right side depending on the variant.

Fault code

FMI 2
Intermittent or incorrect data.
Conditions for fault code:

• Abnormally large change between two consecutive

sensor values. If the sensor then stabilises on the new
value, the fault code will be deactivated.
D
FMI 4
Abnormally low voltage or short-circuit to lower voltage.
Conditions for fault code:

• The control unit registers a signal voltage from the

level sensor below 0.5V.
Possible cause:

Signal wire short-circuited to ground.

Open circuit in the signal wire.

Break in the supply cable.

• Faulty sensor.
Note: If an inactive fault code is found, the level sensor
arm and sensor installation should be checked. Reaction from the control unit:

Possible cause: • The function for the front axle load limitation ceases.
Appropriate check:
• Level sensor arm damaged.

• Signal cable short circuited to voltage. • Check that the sensor installation is correct and has
no play.
• Open circuit in the ground wire.

• Faulty sensor. FMI 7

Incorrect response from the mechanical system.
Reaction from the control unit:
The unfiltered sensor value usually fluctuates when

Appropriate check: set, then a large number of consecutive sensor values
have not shown any variation.
• Check that the level sensor arm is intact, that the
