Compare and contrast the concepts of art according to Western thought and Filipino notion of
personhood or pagkatao. Explain briefly.

Western thought:

Based on Western thinking about the concepts of art, they are more on the representation of what they
observe outside or situations before and in the current times. World history, scenery, important figures,
technological advancements as well as reflection about religious sentiments and symbols are usually
what Western artists portrayed and used as a concept when they create art. Western thought relating to
the concept of art also being realism and impressionism in their style.

Filipino notion of personhood or pagkatao:

Being concerned about others through love or through having a good personality and giving respect to
others as a person even though there are differences in culture, status in life and religion are one of the
best examples of having personhood or pagkatao. Also, the concept of what we called shared self is
significant to us Filipinos about the conception of personhood, which means it attaches anyone outside
of themselves regardless of being complete strangers which is very helpful when someone is in need in
different aspects.
