Western concept of art emphasizes Individualism, creativity, and self-expression. Art is

frequently viewed as a form of personal expression and exploration in which the artist is
the primary creator, and only educated people are considered artists. Personhood, or
"pagkatao" in Filipino, emphasizes interconnectedness, community, and harmony. Art in
Filipino culture frequently expresses communal values, emphasizing shared
experiences and collective identity. It serves as a means of expressing cultural heritage,
traditions, and shared narratives, often involving community participation rather than
individual expression. While Western art prioritizes individual creativity and self-
expression, Filipino art is deeply rooted in pagkatao, reflecting Filipino society's
interconnectedness and collective identity.
