What I know?

In the spectrum of electromagnetic waves, the electromagnetic spectrum is a

range of frequencies, wavelengths, and photon energies ranging from below
1 hertz to over 1025 Hz, equivalent to wavelengths ranging from a few
kilometers to a fraction of the size of an atomic nucleus. Every type of ray in
the electromagnetic spectrum has a different source and a different use. And
there are many applications of the electromagnetic spectrum, one of the
most important applications is communication technology with its several
types.

Answering Questions

1. What is communication technology?

Technology is a very important thing in our life, as every part in our life is affected by

technology, even communication is affected by technology, but what is communication

technology? Communication technology means the whole equipment or programs that

we use to communicate with each other and share information, and that is why

communication technology is also named information technology. Communication

technology depends on signals through space, and scientists called the space by

unguided medium. Additionally, communication technology has no physical medium,

as the transmission of these signals through space is made by electrical devices called

antennas, it converts the electrical signals to form the radio signals, which form the

electromagnetic waves, and an important thing to this process to happen is that the

antennas must be in the transmitter, which act as a converter, and the receiver.

(What_is_Communication_Technology, n.d.)

2. What is electromagnetic wave?

So, as we said that electromagnetic waves are supposed to let the process of antennas

and radio waves happen. But what are the electromagnetic waves? The electromagnetic

energy of an electromagnetic field is carried over space by electromagnetic waves.

Gamma Rays (– Rays), X – Rays, Ultraviolet Rays, Visible Light, Infrared Rays,

Microwave Rays, and Radio Waves are all examples of electromagnetic waves.

Electromagnetic waves (typically Radio Waves) are used to transport signals in wireless

communication. In the form of time-varying sinusoidal waves, an Electromagnetic

Wave comprises of both electric and magnetic fields. Both of these fields oscillate

|Page5
perpendicularly to one another, and the path of propagation of the Electromagnetic

Wave is perpendicular to both of them. In the electromagnetic spectrum which

includes these types of rays, every ray has different wavelength and different

frequencies. Furthermore, they have different properties according to their source and

their interaction with matter.

(electromagnetic-spectrum-and-electromagnetic-waves, n.d.)

3. History of Wireless communication?

Communication technology has been a feature of human existence since the usage of

smoke signals, flags, and flashing mirrors in the prehistoric period, and it is constantly

changing. The use of electrical signals and radio waves for communication has been

around for over a century. Guglielmo

Marconi demonstrated wireless

telegraphy in 1897 by transmitting EM

waves over a small distance of 100 m.

This demonstration cleared the door for

radio communication, which is derived

from the phrase "radiant energy.” Trans-Atlantic

radio transmission had been developed by the

early 1900s, with Marconi successfully

transmitting Morse code communications. Since

then, communication technology has improved

significantly, allowing transmissions over longer

distances at lower costs and with fewer expensive equipment. Many wireless

technologies and approaches have blossomed and many have vanished during the

|Page6
evolution of wireless communication. Telephone communication and television

transmission are the finest examples of this. All telephone-related communication was

(and still is) carried out through a wired network, which we refer to as Landline

Telephone. However, as mobile communication grew in popularity, it began to supplant

the cumbersome conventional telephone system, wired technology has become obsolete,

and wireless communication has taken its place. Television transmission is another

example of where wireless communication has been superseded by wired connection.

Wireless radio transmitters were used to broadcast television signals in the early days.

However, cable television has now supplanted this configuration.

(wireless-communication-introduction-types-applications, 2021)

4. What are the advantages of communication technology?

Communication technology has many pros, as in general, it has made life easier, and

has made communication between people much easier, and has given the opportunity

to communicate between people in different countries. However, we can list the

advantages of communication technology to be presented in:

• The cost: as communication technology has decreased the cost a lot,

communication technology eliminates the expense of establishing wires, cables,

and other infrastructure, decreasing the overall cost of the system when

compared to conventional communication. Installing a wired network in a

building, digging into the ground to lay cables, and connecting those wires over

streets is a complex, expensive, and time-consuming task. Drilling holes for

cables in ancient structures is not a good idea since it compromises the

structure's integrity and significance. Wireless connection, such as Wi-Fi or

|Page7
Wireless LAN, is also the sole option in older buildings without dedicated lines

for communication.

• Mobility: It allows you to walk about while being connected to the network, as it

do not make you tied to a wire.

• Easy Installation: The technology and architecture of communication network

are relatively simple to set up and install because there are no wires to deal with.

In addition, setting up a wireless system, such as a Wi-Fi network, takes far less

time than setting up a full cabled network.

• Reliability: as communication technology does not employ cables or wires, there

is no risk of communication failure due to cable damage, which might be caused

by environmental factors, cable splices, or natural deterioration of metallic

conductors.

• Recovering after a disaster: The loss of communication infrastructure can be low

in the event of an accident caused by fire, floods, or other calamities.

(wireless-communication-introduction-types-applications, 2021)

5. What are the disadvantages of communication technology?

As we know that everything has its pros and cons, also communication technology has

some cons, and they can be presented in:

• Health issues: Continuous exposure to radiation of any kind can be dangerous.

Even though the exact quantities of RF energy that might cause harm hard to be

determined, it is recommended that RF radiation be avoided to the greatest

extent possible.

• Security: Because the signals are broadcast in free space, an intruder may be able

to intercept them and copy important information.

|Page8
• Interference: There's a good risk that radio signals from one wireless

communication system or network will interfere with signals from other

wireless communication systems or networks.

(wireless-communication-introduction-types-applications, 2021)

6. What are the types of wireless communication?

• Television and Radio Broadcasting

• Satellite Communication
• Microwave Communication
• Radar
• Mobile Telephone System (Cellular Communication)
• Global Positioning System (GPS)
• Infrared Communication
• WLAN (Wi-Fi)
• Bluetooth
• Cordless Phones
• Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)

(The Different Types of Wireless Communication, n.d.)

7. What is meant by interference in communication technology?

Interference is the term for the impact of unwanted electromagnetic radiation on

electronic systems. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference

|Page9
(RFI) are two types of interference (RFI). RF

interference is defined as the influence of

undesired RF energy in a system, exhibited

as impaired performance, data loss,

equipment damage, and so on. However, in

more scientific way, it is the result of two or more wave trains flowing in opposite

directions on crossing or coinciding pathways.

Types:

• Unintentional

• Intentional

• Natural

• Human-made

• Aggregate human-made

• Internal

(interference-mitigation-techniques-in-wireless-communications-systems, 2022)

8. What are the causes for frequency interference?

There are four main causes for frequency interference:

• Additional wireless hotspots (Wi-Fi)

• Microwaves Ovens: But not all types

• Cordless phones

• Bluetooth devices

(what-is-rf-interference.html#How_to_Minimize, n.d.)

| P a g e 10
9. How can we solve the problem of frequency interference?

Customers who are experiencing RF interference should switch to a less congested Wi-

Fi channel, according to most Wi-Fi equipment vendors. Switching to a different Wi-Fi

channel, on the other hand, merely eliminates the issue of RF interference from other

Wi-Fi networks. Intermitted RF interference must be handled by boosting the Signal-to-

Noise (SNR) Ratio to ensure optimum performance. With the right RF interference Wi-Fi

tool, you can eliminate as many RF interference sources as feasible. Signal strength and

RF SNR can be improved by increasing the strength or density of Wi-Fi access points.

The former can be accomplished by eliminating as many sources of RF interference as

possible or, in some cases, by using the 5 GHz frequency.

(interference-mitigation-techniques-in-wireless-communications-systems, 2022)

10. What is the interaction between communication technology (Wi-Fi) and social?

Social theories, in contrast to technical

determinism, claim that technologies and

their impacts on society are formed and

regulated by social interactions and

attitudes evolved within social systems.

According to social constructivists, technologies are ambiguous because they may be

understood in a variety of ways. Also, technology has made communication a lot easier,

from where I am able to text someone from the North America, and also in the way I

like best whether it's a video or a voice call only or even just messaging.

(Technology and Communication, 2016)

11. What is the interaction between communication technology (Wi-Fi) and environment?

As we said before that communication technology has some cons which includes health issues.

And also, Wi-RF Fi's signal can create

environmental issues including growth

suppression and sickness in species, including

humans. Li-visible Fi's light is projected to have

low environmental impact because it employs

standard LED light bulbs that are often used in

home illumination. Exposing the environment to many rumors causes great harm to it, and it

also causes harm to human health, so we must reduce our exposure to these harmful rumors.
