Job Description:
• Food service managers are the leaders in the kitchen and the front of house in operations of all
kinds. Responsible for overall operation, food service managers hire staff, purchase food and
stock, and make sure everyone is trained on proper food preparation, kitchen safety techniques
and understand health standards. Food service managers make sure that company is represented
correctly and that the company's standards are upheld.
• Food service managers lead their team to make sure the food looks good and is cooked properly,
the proportions are correct, and it is cooked and served quickly by friendly and courteous staff.
Food service managers also set daily and weekly cleaning schedules for the kitchen and front of
house, hire, train and discipline employees and set work schedules.
• Food service managers also hit the books, by keeping tabs on food cost, waste and employee
hours, doing their best to optimize profit for their company and create the best dining experience
possible for customers.
Job Skills and Requirements
• Customer-Service: Food service managers have to interact with customers.
Being friendly and courteous will help keep customers coming back.
• Attention to Detail: Food service managers have to keep their eyes on a lot of
elements: food standards, costs, safety, etc.
• Leadership: Kitchen managers must be leaders in the back of house, rallying
their team during heavy shifts, resolving conflicts and getting the job done.
• Management Skills: Food service managers not only deal with food, they also
have to deal with costs, pricing, creating work schedules and more.
• Organizational Skills: Keeping work schedules, shipments, cleaning schedules
and more organized is crucial to the job.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Dealing with employee conflict, irate customers and
wrong stock orders is part of a food service manager's job. Being able to come
up with a solution quickly is a needed skill.
• Speaking Skills: Food service managers need to accurately and easily
communicate standards and cooking methods to staff, give orders and speak
with customers clearly.
• Stamina: Food service managers can expect long days around hot cooking
elements, much of it on their feet.
Nutrition Services Staff
• Cooks (2 full time employees and 1 part time)
• Prepares food for students and employees.
• Ensures food supplies are appropriate and places orders when necessary.
• Ensures a clean kitchen and workspace.
• Supervises dietary assistant.
• Cook Assistants (2 full time and 3 part time employees)
• Helps prepare the food for the students and employees
• Takes inventory of food and kitchen supplies.
Cooks
• Izzy Smith
• Izzy has been working as a cook with Easy Eat Campus Dining for the last 25 years. She has
seen a lot of transition in food service staff. She is very compassionate about the students
and is a stickler for the rules. Due to her length of service, she is very consistent and does Marjorie Izzy
not like change.
• She is always on time and dependable
• Izzy is the AM cook and is scheduled from 5AM-1:30PM 5 days a week.
• Her main responsibilities are to cook and help with breakfast and lunch service to the
employees.
• Marjorie Brown
• Marjorie has been working with Easy Eat Campus Dining as a cook for 8 years.
• She is a free spirit and embraces change
• She is creative and often like to use her creativity in her cooking
• Marjorie is the PM cook and is scheduled from 11AM-7:30PM 5 days a week Sammy
• Her main responsibilities is to assist with lunch preparation and service for students and
employees. She is responsible for preparing dinner service for the students employees.
• Sammy Bell
• Sammy is a part time cook. He has been working with Easy Eat Campus Dining for the past
3 years.
• Sammy is a very personable and enjoys talking and chatting with the students, employees
and other members of the food service staff. He is very passionate about his job and loves
to make people happy through his cooking.
• Sammy is scheduled for both the AM and PM shifts filling in for the full time cooks on their
days off.
• Depending on the shift, Sammy prepares and serves the meals to students and employees.
Cook Assistants Full Time
• Jenny Larson
• Jenny has been with Easy Eat Campus Dining for 9 years. She is the daughter
in law of Izzy and married to Izzy’s son.
• She works the AM shift from 5AM-1:30 and helps the head cook prepare and
serve meals and snacks for the students. She is responsible for cleaning and
working in the dish room
• Cindy Embleton
• Cindy has been with Easy Eat Campus Dining for 3 years
• Cindy is a single mom of 3 grade school children. She commutes about 20
minutes to work each day.
• Cindy works the PM shift from 11-7:30PM. She assists with lunch and dinner
service and helps the cook prepare lunch and dinner for the students
• She is responsible for cleaning and working in the dish room
Cook Assistants part time
• Sandra Fullerton
• Sandra is a part time dietary assistant that works about 20-25 hours a week.
• She has school aged children
• She works a four hour shift each day from 10-2 to assist with lunch service for
the students
• Grant Severson
• Grant is a college student that works part time. He works from 3:30-7:30 help
with dinner service and also running the cash register in the café
• He is responsible for assisting with clean up, including the dish room
• He works 3-4 days a week
• Holly Jacobson
• Holly is a college student that works part time after school. She works from
3:30-7:30 help with dinner service and also running the cash register in the café
• She is responsible for assisting with clean up, including the dish room
• She works 3-4 days a week
