Installation and removal instructions

Scope
This instruction specifies how to install and remove the LIEBHERR GET: teeth, wear caps, lip
shrouds and wing shrouds.

3. Scope
The present LIEBHERR norm specifies the requirements for the installation and removal of LIEBHERR
Ground Engaging Tools (GET) on buckets:
- Teeth
- Wear caps
- Lip shrouds
- Wing shrouds

Refer to LIEBHERR GET welding instructions Item 11826047 for the assembly by welding of new GET
adapters and weld bases.

Refer to LIEBHERR general welding repair procedure Item 11646524 for:


- Repair of used GET adapters and shroud bases;
- Rebuilt of worn GET adapters;
- Repair of GET adapters welds;
- Repair of other structural parts;
- Replacement of wear parts.

Refer to WI MIN 503 35842 - Bucket inspection and maintenance plan - for guidance on the monitoring
and inspection of GET parts.

Concerning non-LIEBHERR ground engaging tools, refer to the technical instructions provided by the
related manufacturers.

4. Safety
During the installation and removal of GETs, the use of protective clothing is recommended:
- Safety shoes,
- Gloves,
- Safety glasses
- Hard hat,
- Specific welding protection equipment, for the welding of lifting rings on used GET.

PINCH POINTS
CAUTION

Take care of your fingers when assembling or removing GET parts.


Specific gloves for the handling of heavy parts should be worn.

HEAVY PARTS
CAUTION

Big GET parts should not be handled by hand. Use suitable lifting devices when
assembling or removing GET.

When removing used GETs, a lifting ring may be welded to perform a safe lifting
operation.

5. Extraction tool
The extraction tool defined in this document for the installation and removal of LIEBHERR GETs may
be ordered at LIEBHERR:

with one single locking system.

6. Teeth
6.1. Preparation
For the installation and removal of teeth, an extraction tool is required.

In order to ease the installation and removal of teeth, it is recommended to place the bucket so that
teeth are facing slightly upwards.

Step Instructions

Clean the whole tooth adapter nose (1) 1


and retainer housing (2) to allow the
subsequent assembly of the tooth and
retainer.

For the removal of teeth, clean the


locking pins from any soil/dirt before the
operation.

6.2. Installation
Follow below steps in order to install a new GET tooth:

Push the retainer (3) into the recess in

the nose of the adapter as shown.

Step Instructions

Mount the tooth (4) on the nose of the 4


adapter.

2 Use a crane/forklift to lift the tooth if


necessary. A lifting eye (5) is
available.
Be careful of the pinch point.

3 Insert the pin (6) by hand until it stops.

Place the square head of the extraction tool
(7) into the pin hole (8) and rotate the pin

clockwise a quarter of a turn until it has
stopped.

Put on a plug (9) to prevent the pin hole to


5 become filled with soil/dirt, saving cleaning
time when disassembling.

6.3. Removal
Follow below steps in order to remove a GET tooth:

Remove the plug to allow the removal of the

pin using the extraction tool.

Place the square head of the extraction tool


2 into the pin hole and rotate the pin anti-
clockwise a quarter of a turn.

7. Wear caps
7.1. Preparation
For the installation and removal of a wear cap, an extraction tool is required.

In order to ease installation and removal of wear caps, it is recommended to place the bucket so that
teeth are facing slightly upwards.

Step Instructions

Clean the whole tooth adapter nose, retainer housing and adapter guides to allow the

subsequent assembly of the wear cap.

7.2. Installation
Follow below steps in order to install a new wear cap:

Mount the wear cap (1) through the adapter 1


guides (2).

Use a crane/forklift to lift the wear
cap if necessary.
Be careful of the pinch point.

Mount the tooth on the nose of the adapter following the chapter 6.2.

The tooth will block the wear cap to get out.

7.3. Removal
Follow below steps in order to remove a wear cap:

1 First remove the tooth following the chapter 6.3 to free the wear cap.

Remove the wear cap.

Use a crane/forklift to lift the wear

cap if necessary.

8. Lip shrouds
8.1. Preparation
For the installation and removal of a lip shroud, an extraction tool is required.

In order to ease the installation and removal of the lip shroud, it is recommended to place the bucket
so that teeth are facing slightly upwards.

Step Instructions

Clean the whole weld base (1) to allow the


subsequent assembly of the lip shroud.

For the removal of lip shrouds, clean the
locking system from any soil/dirt before the
operation.

8.2. Installation - Standard locking system


Follow below steps in order to install a new lip shroud with standard locking system:

Place the retainer (2) into the block (3) as

shown.

Place the shroud (4) on the lip (5), in 7 4

4 Insert the pin (9) by hand until it stops.

8.3. Installation - Optional locking system


Follow below steps in order to install a new lip shroud with new locking system:
Step Instructions

Fully introduce the shroud


on its location by means of
the weld on base guides.
The shroud shall be in
contact with the frontal
surface of the lip.

Use a

crane/forklift to lift
the shroud if
necessary. A
lifting eye is
available.
Be careful of the
pinch point.

Introduce the block into the


shroud.
During this process, the

shroud is trapped between
the block and the weld on
base and it cannot fall.

Step Instructions

Insert the flange and slide it


inside the shroud until the

hole matches with the hole
of the mechanical block.

4 Then, screw the bolt until the flange remain in position. Tight with the extraction tool.

5 Put the plug, in order to protect the cavity of the bolt.

8.4. Removal - Standard locking system


Follow below steps in order to remove a lip shroud with standard locking system:

Remove the plug to allow the removal of

the pin using the extraction tool.

Place the square head of the extraction tool


2 into the pin hole and rotate the pin anti-
clockwise a quarter of a turn.

Remove the block, with the help of a

screwdriver (12).

Remove the shroud.

Use a crane/forklift to lift the shroud

if necessary. A lifting eye (7) is
available.

8.5. Removal - Optional locking system


Follow below steps in order to remove a lip shroud with new locking system:

plug from the bolt.

2 Untighten the bolt with the extraction tool.

the flange outside.
For a correct extraction of

9. Wing shrouds
9.1. Preparation
For the installation and removal of the wing shroud, an extraction tool is required.

It is recommended to work from the outside of the bucket.

In order to ease installation and removal of the wing shrouds, it is recommended to place the bucket
so that teeth are facing slightly upwards.

Step Instructions

Clean the whole weld-on base (1) and pin


holes (2) to allow the subsequent assembly 1
of the lip shroud.

9.2. Installation
Follow below steps in order to install a new wing shroud:

Place the retainers (3) into the recesses (4)


of the wing shroud (5).

Retainers must be placed so that the yellow 4


polyurethane side (6) is in contact with the

wing shroud and brown rubber side (7) is in
contact with the sidewall.

The polyurethane part corresponds to the


side of the retainer with reference marking.

Place the wing shroud on the side wall (8),


in contact with its edge (9).

Use a crane/forklift to lift the shroud 9
if necessary. A lifting eye (10) is

9.3. Removal
