Introduction

- Filipinos are musically inclined, that every corner of the island showcases a traditional
embedded with traditional dances.
(alam naman natin na tayong mga Pilipino ay mahilig talaga sa music at dance. Sa katunayan,
kaya nating ipakita ang iba’t-ibang kultura ng isang lugar sa pamamagitan lamang ng sayaw)
At dahil nga may iba’t-iba tayong pamamaraan ng sa pagsayaw kaya naman nahahatid
din ito sa iba’t-ibang kategorya.

Philippine Dance Classifications:


1. Dances from Cordillera Groups

- This dance portrays the walk of the industrious Kalingga women, carrying water
pots on their heads and wearing the colorful hand-woven "blankets of life" around
their necks.

2. Western – Influenced Dances

- The Spanish colonization of the Philippines brought many Western influences

3. Dances of the Muslim Groups

- They are known for their mysticism, royalty, and beauty which are evident in their
music and dances. Their dances are usually accompanied by the agong and
kulintang.

4. Dances of the Tribal Indigenous Groups

- The movements are accompanied with the resonant drumming or gongs, and
welcome visitors in delicate swaying dances using fans and scarves.

Now that we understood the different classifications of Folk Dance, let us now understand what
is Folk Dance?
Folk Dance
- a cultural art form handed down from one generation to another. It communicates the
customs, beliefs ad occupations of the people of a region or country. Folk dancing belongs
to the people.
