Q- Executive Program Practical Connection AssignmentAt UC, it is a priority that students are

provided with strong educational programs and courses that allow them to be servant-leaders in

their disciplines and communities, linking research with practice and knowledge with ethical

decision-making. This assignment is a written assignment where students will demonstrate how

this course research has connected and put into practice within their own careers.

Assignment: Provide a reflection of at least 500 words (or 2 pages double spaced) of how the

knowledge, skills, or theories of this course have been applied or could be applied, in a practical

manner to your current work environment. If you are not currently working, share times when

you have or could observe these theories and knowledge could be applied to an employment

opportunity in your field of study.

Requirements: Provide a 500 word (or 2 pages double spaced) minimum reflection.Use of proper

APA formatting and citations. If supporting evidence from outside resources is used those must

be properly cited. Share a personal connection that identifies specific knowledge and theories

from this course. Demonstrate a connection to your current work environment. If you are not

employed, demonstrate a connection to your desired work environment. You should NOT

provide an overview of the assignments assigned in the course. The assignment asks that you

reflect on how the knowledge and skills obtained through meeting course objectives were

applied or could be applied in the workplace.

Data Science Course Reflection

Informational technology has increased the amount of information that organizations

process hence increasing the application of data science. My knowledge of data science has

always perceived it as a strategy that deals with analyzing algorithms. I did not have adequate

knowledge concerning data science. However, the course brought new insight into what data

science entails. Moreover, apart from understanding what data science entails, I have gained

valuable skills that have played an imperative role in my career.

Big data appear to be controlling the current world. As data increase, it has forced

organizations to foster an effective mechanism that can help process and analyze the vast amount

of information. It is hard to imagine an organization that does not use data science in the current

era. Data science is one of the most marketable courses in the contemporary informational world

(Govind et al., 2019). I always wanted a career that will help me acquire a wide range of job

opportunities, and data science has amicably fulfilled my desires.

I am currently working as a data scientist, and all the time, I use the knowledge and skills

I have acquired from my lecturers and reading materials. Similarly, several practical classes we

indulge in the university of Cumberland have played a pivotal role in me becoming an expert

data scientist. Generally, at the workplace my primary responsibility involves advising the

technical team on potential threats on data loss, providing insights in organization objectives,

data mining, statistical analysis, and visualizing performance metrics.

Additionally, I also have a responsibility to manage various projects that help the

company achieve its objectives. In management, I mostly synthesize and leverage big data to

ensure all stakeholders understand propensities and decision points. Equally, I combine

computational science and technology by driving valuable insights that can change

organizational performance.

One of the fundamental skills obtained during the data science course was Structured

Query Language (SQL). From my work experience, I have realized data science cannot succeed

without SQL. Similarly, every company needs an SQL expertise (Epstein & Dexter, 2017). In the

university of Cumberland, I learned Structured Query Language is a modernized version of

Excel software. I use SQL to manage and store multiple data to facilitate the easy extraction of

useful information as well as relating and changing database structures.

Correspondingly, Microsoft excel also plays a significant role in a data science career.

Before pursuing a data course, excel, to me, was ideally a spreadsheet. However, after attending

a few classes, I realized there are more insights into excel. While programming languages such

as Python and R are known to handling a big set of data more effectively, developed excel

methods such as writing Marcos are much better in analyzing and extracting data from

unstructured sources. In all data science activities that indulge, I must use excel.

Predictive analytics and artificial intelligence are two critical concepts I know in data

science. Therefore, to use the two tools, my work experienced has necessitated the need to

acquire machine learning skills. While not all activities use machine learning, I have noted

knowing it simplifies some sophisticated data.

Conclusively, as more data increases, the need to have more data scientists rises as well.

Therefore, learning institutions should consider offering a data sciences course. Importantly,

students willing to interact with big data should pursue a data science course.
