Narrative Writing

28th August was just round the corner, and my excitement was at its peak as that was my father’s
birthday. My mother, brother and I decided to bake plain cake for him on his special day as it is one the
things on top of his priority list.

His birthday fell on a Monday which meant we had to get done with all the preparations on Sunday.
It was Sunday, and my father was at home. The three of us planned to send him out for some work and
in the meanwhile, we could complete all our planned preparations. My mother was supposed to bake
the cake but little did we know all our plannings were to go in vain. Urgently, my parents had to go out,
which meant my mother could no more bake the cake. Anxiety and worry surrounded my mind as I
thought of the further possible measures my brother and I could take at home, in order to save the plan
from getting spoilt. With all sorts of thoughts surrounding my mind, an idea struck my mind. I was not
necessary that our mother baked the cake, the two of us could also make an attempt on doing so. We
gathered all the ingredients and followed the recipe our mother was earlier supposed to follow. Unsure
about the final output, we put the batter in the oven hoping for a desirable outcome. To our surprise,
the cake was just perfect: it had just the right amount of moisture and its colour also seemed rich. We
did not try it earlier as we had to get it cut by my father. It was finally the time we all had been waiting
for, so anxiously. The cake, made by our very own hands was to be cut and eaten and judged. My
brother and I were both pretty nervous about the remarks but they turned out to be really good. He
loved the cake and all our efforts were availed at last. This incident remains to be the most accurate
definition of what I had only heard until that day; where there is a will there is a way. I now believe
strongly the worst of our nightmares can turn into the best of our memories if we wish to attain our
goals strongly and work hard to reach our desired destinations.
