Burntout English teacher; unlikely perpetrator of school fire alarm!

Yesterday afternoon, around 2p.m, havoc was wreaked at the local Elmwood High School when
the fire alarm was pulled. This hoax wasted not only vital class hours for students and teachers
alike, pushing the entire school into disarray, but also led to the fire brigade unnecessarily
making their way to the school. At first, the blame was put on Mark Jiang (15), but recent events
have brought to light that in reality, the perpetrator was the school’s English teacher : Sarah
Salmon (42), who’d reportedly been extremely stressed out due to her Year 11 class, which was
due for an observation.

As of this month, all schools in the area are undergoing rigorous checks to ensure they are
complying with the new guidelines released. Ms. Salmon’s observation was scheduled for
yesterday, and the Chairman of the school himself was conducting it. Ms. Salmon had been
struggling with what fellow English teacher, Mr Jones (45), remarked was a “rather boisterous
bunch of Year 11s”. Her anxiety regarding the observation of this batch is what is thought to
have led to her pulling the alarm mere moments before the class commenced.

In the wake of this unprecedented chaos, the entire school was evacuated and the fire brigade
was called, and the entire fiasco took over an hour to wrap-up before it came to light that it was
all staged and there was no fire. Immediate suspicion fell upon Mark Jiang, a year 9 student
who had been loitering in the area, and according to fellow students, had a history of causing
trouble. However, a few moments after the Principal accused Jiang, Salmon gave in to the
mounting pressure and began to weep before confessing that she had pulled the alarm,
resigning on the spot. Bystanders commented that she seemed rather hysterical, and had to be
driven home by a friend called to the school.

Recent revelations have shown that Salmon was struggling with major anxiety regarding the
school, with close friends informing us that she was working on simply 4 hours of sleep a day,
and an extremely low salary. Furthermore, she was unable to manage her classroom and did
not know how to ask for help. The incident has led to a wave of protests across the country, with
people demanding justice and increased support for teachers.
