1.3 Output and Capacity of the Plan
1.3.1. Mechanical Cycle Time for charging
Press plate/carrier transfer from stripping to forming 24 sec
Press loading-unloading excluding press opening & closing – minimum possible 200 sec
Total stripping & forming time considering Nos 7 mould plates (for 1 mm 14 Laminate Sheet),
carrier plates for 12 openings 3,000 sec
Striping opening time for compact will be less than 3,000 Sec
o It is considered that paper is placed and finish laminates are removed manually by operators before transfer
of press plate by acrobat; & acrobat does not wait at parking
o Compact will be removed from striping & stacked by acrobat
1.3.2. Mechanically possible Cycle Time for Complete Line
Min Cycle (depending on type of board, papers & press plate) 60 minutes = maximum 22 pressings/day
Basis:
o Separate cages and elevators for loading & unloading
o Carrier plate size 1,450 x 3,300 + mushroom
o Operator match press plate transfer time
Any arising idle times (down time) for
o Change of press plates for new finish | change of film pallets/finished board stacks
o lack of material available | faulty material (raw boards/films) | change of production type/batch
o standstill times due to failures of local facilities & other times which are beyond the manufacturer's
responsibility
Are not considered in the above mentioned capacity figures.
1.3.3. Receiving film pallets
o This is not in MH scope; Position is provided at the beginning of acrobat; named as raw material
1.3.4. Stripping & Lay-up Method
o Carrier plate is transferred from stripping to forming by acrobat; Acrobat uses mechanical grapplers instead
of vacuum pads for lifting carrier. Carrier + bottom cushion + bottom press plate
o In case of Compact, the above transfer can include bottom press plate
o Phenol, décor & other films are laid on the carrier by operators
o Acrobat will bring press-plate and place it on the assembly of films; Bottom cleaning station is provided with
anti-static brushes to clean bottom side of press plate during transfer
o Next layer of paper films will be laid by the operator
o The process will continue for planned number of press-plates
o At the end of the forming, cover plate/top cushion/separating screen will be picked up from parking and
placed on forming. (Operator will cover; cover plate by Kraft paper before pickup by vacuum pads – if cover
plate is used)
o After completion forming book is indexed to elevator A for further transfer to cage A
o After receiving cured material at stripping, top cover will be transferred to parking by acrobat
o In case of compact, the compact laminate is picked up by acrobat and placed on finish laminate station to
form a stack
1.3.5. Press Plates & Films
Press plates Minimum = + 20 mm on length & width of final laminate size
Films = Press plate + Minimum 10 mm in length & width
20211210 HPL 163 x 424 12 Op – Sloplast, Russia Dec 20
1.3.6. Alignment accuracy of press plate in forming stations
Press-plate transfer is automatic by acrobat.
In order to press a laminate properly alignment accuracy of both edges = ± 2
1.3.7. Pressing Cycle
The pressing period or hardening time depends on the resin composition, which in turn is partly governed by the
type of plant, the available heating and cooling capacity (max & min temperature and heating-cooling capacity),
the desired production quantity, the core material and similar factors. It is impossible to quote a generally valid
rule for pressing time.
However for standard production (7 press-plates & 14 no laminate of 1 mm) can be considered as ~ 60 minutes;
compact time will depend on thickness of finished product
o Consider start of cycle when the press starts closing after loading of all the books by PPA
o Pre-heating will start by hot water from energy saver
o On completion of pre-heating; valves will be operated to receive heat from the accumulator
o 3/2 valve PID control will maintain temperature during heating part of the curing cycle
o Pre-cooling by water from energy saver
o Final cooling to desired temperature by cold water from heat exchanger. Heat exchanger will be cooling
circulating water with the help of water from cooling tower or chiller.
o After reaching final cooling temperature; Press will open
1.3.8. Press Plate Change (Optional)
System with 2 storage cages, 2 storage elevators with transfer devices & 2 belts under the acrobat
o It is advisable to store press-plates in the right quantity in a storage compartment
o Empty carrier plate can be provided on one of the conveyors
o A stack of new press plates with a carrier plate is ready on the other conveyor
o The acrobat will remove the press-plate at the stripping station and place on the empty carrier plate
o The acrobat will pick up the new press plate from newly provided stack on the other conveyor and place it on
the forming station after centering
o The cycle will be repeated for desired number of press-plate changes
o Padding paper will be added between press-plates while preparing stack for storage
o The stack of press-plate received from stripping will be transferred to the elevator with transfer device and
the transfer device will store plate in storage compartments
o A new stack can be withdrawn from the storage compartment and brought under the acrobat by reverse
process
o For the press line we recommend use of 2 storage cages of 16 compartments each
o Additional time required for stripping and assembly with change of press-plate as 50-60 minutes
o HMI is provided to register type of plate stored in storage cage compartments.
