among the Baganda.
• These products known as pots came about when
Kabaka Kimera assigned his friend, Banda, to
become his potter 400 years ago. As a result a
special name was given to the Buganda royal pot

The uses of pots has been changing as the generations
change and the shape is designed to suite a particular
purpose
Traditionally pots were used for
USES OF POTS AND cooking different types of food and sauce
THEIR SHAPES

Cooking pots have a wide opening compared to other pots

to allow a bigger entrance and removal of solid food into the pot

GROUP 4
The pots were also used to fetch
water from the water sources

•These pots have a stable bottom to provide stability to the

pot when carried on the head. They have a smaller opening to
let water in and out.

GROUP 4 5
Pots were used
to store harvests
most especially
grains and seeds

•They are huge enough to

hold a big amount of
harvests, they have a hole
to let warmth out to
prevent grains and seeds
from developing moulds

GROUP 4 6
Pots were also used to serve food most especially soup and up to
now they are still used

These were small in size with averagely wide opening to

allow a hand to enter 7

GROUP 4
Pots currently are widely
used for decorative
purposes as flower vases
and wall hangings to
beatify homes and other
important places

•These are formed in

many appealing shapes
and different interesting
designs to catch the
viewer's attention.

Methods Of Forming Pots
There are several methods of forming pots of which are categorized
into;

• Hand building methods; These were mostly used by ancient potters

• Throwing
• Casting

Throwing and casting were introduced later due to

evolution in technology

rolled up from clay and later joined together
to come up with a required shape

• PINCH METHOD; This is where a thumb is

inserted in a lob of clay and modeled to a
required shape

• SLAB METHOD; This is where clay is rolled

into slabs which are later joined together
using slip to get a required shape 10
