Preliminary program Halifax Band Trip 2024

Day 1 - Thursday, April 25th, 2024 TRAVEL, FESTIVAL CONCERT BAND ADJUDICATION,
EVENING CONCERT
Meal Inclusions: Dinner

Morning • Meet your bus driver at Dr. John Hugh Gillis RHS and load
the coach. Depart for Halifax, Nova Scotia.
• Have lunch in Bedford – Chicken Burger, McDonald’s, Tim
Horton’s (own expense).

Afternoon • Board the coach and depart for the Atlantic Festival of
Music at Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU). The
Concert Band will meet your Festival Host and proceed to
the warm-up area in preparation for your Adjudicated
Performance followed by a Clinic with one of the
adjudicators.
The festival host will guide you through the festival
process: Warm-up room - 30 minutes
Performance on stage – 30 minutes
Adjudicator Clinic – 30 minutes
• If time allows remain at the festival to take in a couple of
adjudicated performances by other groups.
• Travel to the hotel for check in – Hampton Inn and Suites
on Cromarty Drive in Dartmouth (Crossing)

Evening • Have Dinner at a local restaurant (to be selected) – meal


included.
• Attend the Evening Concert at Atlantic Festival of Music
Enjoy the Atlantic Festival of Music Evening Concert in
Seton Academic Centre Auditorium, Mount Saint Vincent
University.
• Return to the hotel

Day 2 – Friday, April 26th, 2024 JAZZ BAND ADJUDICATION, FESTIVAL CONCERT, BOWLING,
DANCE
Meal Inclusions: Breakfast, Dinner

Morning • Breakfast at the hotel


• Board the coach for the Atlantic Festival of Music at
MSVU. The Dr. John Hugh Gillis RHS Jazz Band will meet
your Festival Host and proceed to the warm-up area in
preparation for your Adjudicated Performance, followed
by a Clinic with one of the adjudicators.
• Have lunch at the MSVU Dining Hall (own expense)

Afternoon • Attend the Instrument Specific Clinics at the Festival


Each student can attend a 1-hour clinic specific to their
instrument. Clinicians will be professional
musicians/educators at the top of their field.
• Go for a visit to the Canadian Museum of Immigration at
Pier 21

Evening • Board the coach and depart for Bowling and Pizza at
Bowlarama
Enjoy a truly cosmic experience with glowing balls and
lanes that allow you to bowl in the dark! We'll crank up
the music and turn on the laser lights for a bowling
adventure that's out of this world.
• Attend the DJ Dance at the Atlantic Festival of Music
Have fun at the Festival DJ Dance and/or the Live Music
Show by the Nova Scotia Community College performers,
both hosted in the Rosaria Student Centre on campus.
• Return to the hotel.

Day 3 – Saturday, April 27th, 2024 MARITIME MUSEUM, WATERFRONT WALKABOUT, HALIFAX
SHOPPING CENTRE, NEPTUNE THEATRE
Meal Inclusions: Breakfast

Morning • Have Breakfast then pack your belongings and check out
of the hotel. Halifax Waterfront Walkabout
The waterfront will always have a magnetic pull for
visitors and locals. On the water, sailboats, ferries, cargo
ships and naval vessels are a regular sight, while on land
there are unlimited opportunities to experience local
culinary and cultural experiences, chill on a bench or a
hammock, and enjoy that salty maritime breeze.
• Arrive at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic for a self-
guided tour.
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is the oldest and
largest Maritime Museum in Canada. The original concept
of the Museum can be credited to a group of Royal
Canadian Navy officers who envisioned a maritime
museum where relics of Canada’s naval past could be
conserved.
• Depart for Halifax Shopping Centre (HSC)
With over 170 stores, the Halifax Shopping Centre is
Atlantic Canada's largest multi-building shopping centre.

Afternoon • Have Lunch at HSC then board the coach for Neptune
Theatre - Arrive at the theatre to attend a 2pm
performance of THE PROM
