S o l ve nt a n d Acid C l eaning
Sever al so l v e n t and a ci d - t y p e c l eaners can be used to c l ean the engine parts. C u mm ns Engine C om p a ny,
I n c . does not r ecommen d any specific c l eaners. Always follow the c l eaner manufac acttu r e r ' s i n s t r u c ti ons
E x p e r i e n ce h as s h o wn th a t th e best results can be obtained using a cleaner that can be h e a te d to 90 to
95 degr ees C e l s i us ( 180 t o 200 degrees F ah r enheit]. A cleaning tank that prov des a constant m i xing a n d
fi l te r in g o f th e c l eaning so lu t i o n w i ll give t he b e s t results.
~ Remove a ll th e gask e t mat er a l , o-rin gs, and the deposits of sludge, carbon, e tc., w i th a w i re brus h or scrape
scraperr
before putting t he parts in a cleaning tank. Be careful not to damage any gasket surfaces When poss ble,
steam clean t he parts before p utting them in the cleaning tank

Diagnosis
The func

heat generated by the engi ne is absor bed by th e cool a n t
flowing through the passages i n th e cylinder b lock and
head. Th en, heat is removed from the coolant a s i t fl ows
through the radiator . When you t r o u b leshoot overheat
ing, remember th at too much oil in the o i l pan can cause
additional heat from friction when the r od journals a re
submerged in oil.

ings to the top radiator hose and out the fill opening.
Additional venting is provided for engines equipped with
an aftercooler. Open the petcock during filling.
NOTE: Adequate venting is provided for a fill rate of 14
liters/minute (3.5 U.S.
U.S. Gallon/minute].

NOTE: A 50 percent mixture of antifreeze and water must 51 J% 50%
