Introduction

On this compilation, we are going to highlight the sample of six academic text. This sample
will help you evaluate and understand how these six academic text differs from each other highlighting
their content and structures. Here, we have six general classifications of academic texts to cover in this
compilation. But before that, let us know first what is an academic text?

Academic texts are critical, objective and specialized texts that are written by professionals
or experts in a particular field. They are written in formal language and has a formal style and tone. Since
these are objective texts, they are based on facts. You can sense the formality in their tone because they
express thought on a serious subject matter using complex sentences, and technical and academic
language. And in this compilations we will cover the six general classifications of academic text and
those are Essay, Concept paper, Reaction paper, Position paper, Report paper and Research paper.

An Essay is an analytic or interpretative literary composition usually dealing with its subject
from a limited or personal point of view. This academic text will be presented in the first part of this
compilation.

A concept paper is a brief or an excerpt of your research paper that depicts your study’s key
features and explains the research project. It consists the topic of the research, the hypothesis that you
seek to approve or disapprove, research questions, data required and the methods used.

A reaction paper is a type of written assignment that requires personal opinion and
conclusions on a given article or abstract. Compared to a summary, a reaction paper should contain your
own thoughts on the problem discussed in the original text.

A position paper is an essay that presents an arguable opinion about an issue – typically that
of the author or some specified entity. Position papers are published in academia, in politics, in law and
other domains.

A report paper is an specific form of writing that is organized and concisely identify and
examine the issues, events, or findings that have happy in a physical sense such as events that have
occurred within an organisation or findings from a research investigation.

A research paper is a product of seeking information, analysis, human thinking and time.
Basically, when a scholar wants to get answers to questions, they start to search for information to
expand, use, approve or deny findings.

Those are the definitions of our covered general classifications of academic text. After
reading and understanding their definitions, we can clearly see that they also have similarities and all of
them highlights an expression to a serious subject matter using the complex sentences and technical and
academic languages which also represents the contents and structures of an effective academic text.
