Water Treatment

Water that is removed from our water systems must be treated

and tested before it is safe to drink. Let’s explore this process!
Engage Water Quality

Factors which affect water quality:

The quality of your water largely depends on the uses of water in your
region. If you live near industrial areas or farmland, chemicals may be
seeping into the watershed. If you live near major roadways or
commercial areas, you may find salts and other sediments in your water.
All of these sediments and chemicals are called contaminants.

Contaminants are contents that are harmful to humans, other animals,

and the environment. Make a list of sources of
water contaminants in near
The contents of water are typically categorized into three types: your home.
Leakage
1. Biological - both visible (e.g., zebra mussels) and microscopic (e.g., Urban runoff
bacteria and virus) Landfills
2. Chemical - dissolved substances that come from natural processes Mining
Pesticides
(e.g, dissolved limestone) or human activities (e.g., road salt) Industrial waste
3. Physical - all materials that do not dissolve in water (e.g., animal Radioactive Waste
waste and plant debris) Animal waste

Choose one video to summarize. In your summary, be sure to
explain the process involved in the cleaning process. Remember
to use information from the video to support your answer.

First the septic tank would settle some of the heavier waste. The baffle and screenswould filter some of the bigger particles.
