INTRODUCTION

Water wheels have been used for centuries as a means of harnessing the power

of moving water. They can be used to generate electricity, grind grain, or pump water.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in using water wheels as a source of

renewable energy, particularly in areas where access to electricity is limited.

One approach to building a water wheel is to use PVC pipes and bamboo

shoots. PVC pipes are a lightweight and durable material that can be easily shaped

and assembled to create the framework of the water wheel. Bamboo shoots, on the

other hand, are a strong and flexible material that can be used to create the paddles of

the wheel.

To build a water wheel using PVC pipes and bamboo shoots, the first step is to

design the framework of the wheel. This can be done using a CAD software or by

sketching the design on paper. Once the design is finalized, the PVC pipes can be cut

to the appropriate lengths and assembled using PVC cement.

Next, the bamboo shoots can be cut to the appropriate lengths and shaped to

create the paddles of the wheel. The paddles can then be attached to the framework of

the wheel using screws or bolts.

To test the water wheel, it can be placed in a stream or river where the water

flow is strong enough to turn the wheel. As the water flows over the paddles, they will

turn the wheel, which can be connected to a generator or other device to generate

electricity or perform other tasks.

Overall, building a water wheel using PVC pipes and bamboo shoots can be an

affordable and sustainable way to harness the power of moving water for a variety of

purposes.

Mechanical water made out of PVC pipes and bamboo shoots is a low-cost,

sustainable, and efficient way to collect and store rainwater. This method of

harvesting rainwater has been used for centuries in many parts of the world, but has

recently gained popularity due to its environmental benefits. The system consists of a

series of PVC pipes connected to a bamboo shoot, which collects the rainwater from

the roof and directs it into a storage tank. The water can then be used for various
purposes such as irrigation, drinking water, or even bathing. This system is relatively

easy to install and maintain, making it an ideal solution for those looking for an

affordable way to collect and store rainwater. Additionally, this system can help

reduce water bills by providing an alternative source of water that does not require

electricity or other energy sources.

Specifically, this study aims to answer the following questions:

1. Can the improvised water turbine made from recycled plastic bottles and

bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) shoots be able to provide hydroelectric energy

to common low powered electrical devices?

2. How may the effectiveness of the improvised water turbine made from

recycled plastic bottles and bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) shoots be

described in terms of:

a. Electric consumption (kWh)

b. Savings

3. Does the hydroelectric output generated from the improvised water turbine

made from recycled plastic bottles and bamboo (Phyllostachys Edulis) shoots
enough to sustain the energy consumption of the electrical devices in terms

of:

a. Voltage output

b. Electric current

c. Length of operation

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study aims to know how water turbine affect the lives of many people.

Water Turbine is a method to used for electric power generation to convert energy

contained in water, potential energy or kinetic energy, into electrical energy. It is a

system for providing electrical power, an electric power system is defined as a

network of electrical components used to supply, generate, transmit, and consume

electric power. Water Turbine are taken to be the backbone of electricity, which is

considered to be one of the important factors for the prosperity of a nation.Water

turbines are generally considered a clean water producer, as the turbine causes

essentially no change to the water. It use a renewable energy source and are designed

to operate for decades, they produce significant amounts of electrical supply. The

condition that prevents in achieving the goal is the expenses and time allotment in

doing the research. The way of proposing the research is to make a time management
and look for low price, quality materials and ask people who have experience in doing

electrical and mechanical machines that are related to the study.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The research titled “Recycled plastic bottles and Bamboo shots (Phyllostachys

Edulis), as a n Alternative Water Turbine is dedicated to researching the water

problem in Poblacion San Miguel Bulacan. This the study is limited in a renewable

source of energy, the energy generated through hydro power relies on the water cycle,

which is driven by the sun making it renewable. Hydro power is fueled by water,

making it a clean source of energy.Hydro power and pumped storage continue to play

a crucial role in our fight against climate change by providing essential power,

storage, and flexibility services.

Definition of terms

Phyllostachys Edulis - commonly known as Moso Bamboo, is a temperate species of

giant timber bamboo native to China and Taiwan.

Water wheels - are defined by the form of energy they convert to mechanical motion.

Hydropower - known as water power, is the use of falling or fast-running water to

produce electricity or to power machines.

Kinetic Energy - form of energy that an object or a particle has by a reason of its

motion.

Mechanical Energy - sum of kinetic energy, or energy of emotion, and the potential

energy, or energy stored in a system by reason of the position of its parts.

Hydroelectric Energy - also called hydroelectric power or hydroelectricity, is a form

of energy that harness the power of water in motion such as water flowing over a

waterfall to generate electricity.

Electric Power - measures the rate of electrical energy transfer by an electric circuit

per unit of time.

Power Grid - a network of electrical transmission lines connecting a multiplicity of

generating stations to loads over a wide area.

Output Voltage - is the voltage released by a device, such as a voltage regulatoror a

generator.

Voltage - is the pressure from an electrical circuit’s power source that pushes charge

electrons (current) through a conducting loop, enabling them to do work such as

illuminating a light.

Electric Current - is a stream of charged particles, such as electrons or ions, moving

through an electrical conductor or space.

Procedure:

Step 1: Make the waterwheel

 The first step is to take your lenghts of timber and cut them into a series oflenghts

of wood. With that done, ssquare off the Bamboo Shots ( Phyllostachys Edulis)

to make the basic components for the main water wheel frame as needed.
 Mark out the position of any screw holes, with that done, bore and drill any holes

needed through the lenghts of Bamboo shots (Phyllostachys Edulis).

 Sand down the Bamboo shots ( Phyllostachys Edulis) as needed you can do this

by hand or using something like an orbital sander.

 Next grab your timber and begin to assemble the frame for the waterwheel as

needed. Part of the frame will need to have some furrows to enable the

waterwheel to be lowered and raised as needed.

 Insert the ball bearings into th frame for the waterwheel, with that done install

your threaded metal rod between he ball bearings to make the axle for the

waterwheel.

 Next install the piece into the main part of the frame using nuts and bolts.

Step 2: Make the main paddle wheel

 Cut out some quarter-hoops from the plastic bottles for the different parts of the

main waterwheel. Cut them out as required.

 Glue the quarter-hoops together to make a large ring.Next, make some smaller

circles of plastic bottles to make some hubs for the larger wheels, and glue some

lenghts of Bamboo shots (Phyllostachys Edulis) around hubs to make the spokes

of the main wheel.

 Glue the spokes to the main rings of the waterwheel as required. Trim off any

excess bits of Bamboo shots (Phyllostachys Edulis) from the spokes as needed

too.

 Bolt two halves of the water wheels together using a threaded rod and nuts and

bolts. With that done cut out a series of rectangles of plastic bottles and glue them

into place around the waterwheel to make the paddles of the wheel.

Step 3: Assemble the waterwheel

 Complete the final assembly of the water wheel. Attach the waterwheel to its

axle, and install it within the the wooden supporting cradle within the main

waterwheel frame.

 Adjust the nuts on the main threaded rod axle as needed to keep the braces apart

while allowing the waterwheel to freely rotate. Next cut out a small Bamboo

shots (Phyllostachys Edulis) circle and add to one end of the axle. This will act

as a drive wheel for the power generator.

 Take your mini dynamo and attach this to its mounting bracket on the main

assembly. Secure it into place using a metal ring or other bracing.

 Add a sprocket to the main rotor of the motor/dynamo, and another larger

sprocket to the main axle of the waterwheel. Then connect the two sprockets

together using a small length of bike chain or similar.

 Take an old electrical socket nd switch and wire them up to the wiresfrom the

dynamo. Secure the wires to the frame so that wont get damaged/pulled loose

when the waterwheel is in operation,

Step 4: Test you Generator

 Now all you need to do is find a suitable watercourse, like a little stream, canal

and place your power generator in place across the waterway

 Then lower the waterwheel into the water, flick the switch, and watch your little

power generator do its thing.
