The Life of Michael Hallam

1896 - 1914: Michael Hallam born; brought up in Bristow ((11) _________ miles outside

in Oxford; accepted at Oxford University.

1914 - 1921: Joined the army at the outbreak of World War 1. Posted to France;
seriously wounded and hospitalised. Slow convalescence over 2 years, followed by

1921 - 1939: Moved to British East Africa (now Kenya). He became a partner in the
engineering firm, East Africa Engineering.

Lost his son in the war. Joined Board of Directors of East Africa Engineering at the end

Engineering in 1961 and in the same year became Oxford’s mayor for 5 years.

1966 - 1980: Full Retirement. Hallam continued to be active in local events. He was
