Worth County Primary School The Lambs Yarn October 2011

Stacey Rutledge Principal Cora Brettel & Paige Crawford Assistant Principals

A Word from Mr. Rutledge: I would first like to start by saying that Worth County Primary School is off to a great start this school year.
All of our students are working very hard and learning new things each and every day. Our teachers are planning engaging lessons that challenge all of our students to meet the Georgia Performance Standards set forth in the schools curriculum. The key to every students success is the partnership between home and school. Parents, we encourage you to communicate with your childs teacher throughout the school year. This communication helps parents to understand what is being taught in the classroom, ways to help students at home, and to communicate any concerns that might arise. Also please make sure that you are reading the classroom newsletter that is sent home by your childs teacher. This newsletter will give you an idea of what your child will be working on for the coming week and any other important news from the classroom. I would like to thank everyone for all of the cooperation and support that is given to Worth County Primary. We all look forward to a wonderful productive school year.

WCPS Storybook Pumpkin Decorating Contest: Start collecting your pennies now! Every class at WCPS will be decorating a
pumpkin to look like a storybook character. The pumpkins will then be placed on display in the media center. Students (and parents, too) will be able to vote on their favorite storybook pumpkin from October 17-28. The pumpkin that earns the most money will WIN!!! You may vote as much as you like. The winning pumpkins class will receive a big SURPRISE!!! (*All proceeds will help sponsor activities at WCPS.)

Red Ribbon Week 2011: Worth County Primary School will participate in Red Ribbon Week October 24-28. This is a national
celebration of a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. To kick things off, students are encouraged to participate in the Red Ribbon Week Poster Contest. Posters are to be completed at home by the child with guidance from their parent(s). The theme should be any drug-free theme and should be written somewhere on the poster along with the childs full name, homeroom teacher, and grade. Posters should be no larger than (half) a st nd rd sheet of poster board. Prizes will be awarded to 1 , 2 , and 3 place in each grade. The deadline to turn in posters is Wednesday, October 12, and winners will be announced on Friday, October 28. Good Luck!!! Special days are planned for each day during Red Ribbon Week. Students may participate in the following activities: Oct. 24 = Wear Red Day Oct. 27 = Be All You Can Be Day (Wear camouflage clothing.) Oct. 25 = Drugs Turn You Inside Out Day (Wear clothes inside out.) Oct. 28 = Put a Cap on Drugs Day (Wear a hat.) Oct. 26 = Paws-itively Drug-Free Day (Donate pet food for Best Help us promote a drug-free lifestyle!!! Friends Humane Society.)

What Do Parents Think?

In the spring of 2011, a parent survey was sent home with WCPS students. Parents returned 343 of these surveys. Here is some of the information that we received. *69% strongly agreed and 35% agreed that our school is a safe place to learn. *67% strongly agreed and 34% agreed that our school has high academic expectations for their child. *62% strongly agreed and 38% agreed that they are informed about learning goals for students. *65% strongly agreed and 36% agreed that their childs progress is reported on a regular basis. *55% strongly agreed and 43% agreed that they are informed of ways for parents to become involved in school activities. *54% strongly agreed and 43% agreed that their child feels welcomed and valued at school. This is just some of the information we were able to collect from the survey. As you can see, according to the parents of WCPS students, we are exceeding in many areas, but there is always room for improvement. We value what our parents think and feel about our school. We will always aim to be the best school for you and your child.
