Requirement
1. Proof of identity

4. Proof that you’re recognised as a teacher
5. Proof of work history
You’ll need to complete your application within 6 months of starting it.

Proof of identity
You must provide one of the following:

 passport (must not have expired)


 birth certificate
 national identity card that shows your date of birth and nationality (must not
have expired)
Proof of qualifications
You must hold a teaching qualification that’s equivalent to a UK ‘level
6’ or higher.
For any qualifications you submit, you’ll need to provide:

 a certificate
 a transcript (or diploma supplement)
Proof of English language ability
3. If you studied in a country that’s NOT exempt

If your teaching qualification or university degree was taught exclusively in the


English language you can upload an official document, which is sometimes called a
Medium of Instruction (MOI).

You can request this from the institution where you studied. It must be signed and
stamped by them on official headed paper and it must state that the medium of
instruction was English. It must also include your name, degree title and award date.

4. Provide an approved English language certificate


If you cannot provide one of the documents described in 1,2 or 3, you'll need a B2
level Secure English Language Test (SELT) from on approved provider. We accept
the following approved providers and tests:

 IELTS SELT Consortium: ‘International English Language Testing System


(IELTS) for UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI)’ or ‘International English
Language Testing System (IELTS) Life Skills'
 LanguageCert: ‘LanguageCert International English for speakers of other
languages (ESOL) SELT’
 Pearson: ‘Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic UK Visa and Immigration
(UKVI)’ or ‘Pearson Test of English (PTE) Home’
 PSI Services (UK) Ltd: 'Skills for English UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI)’
 Trinity College London: ’Secure English Language Test (SELT) for UK Visa
and Immigration (UKVI)’ - Integrated Skills in English (ISE) or Graded
Examinations in Spoken English (GESE)
The test must be awarded within the last 2 years before the date of your application.

Proof that you’re recognised as a teacher


You’ll need to provide a Letter of Professional Standing from the Teachers
Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

You should request it by emailing LoPs@trcn.gov.ng.

You cannot send this document yourself – instead, you must contact the Teachers
Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) and ask them to send it directly to us
at ApplyQTS.Verification@education.gov.uk.

Do not request this document yet – we’ll carry out some checks on your application
first. If your application passes these checks, we’ll then email you and ask you to
request the document.

Once you've submitted your application, we’ll notify TRCN that you’ve applied for
QTS. You do not need to contact us to get written confirmation of this.

TRCN will charge you a fee of ₦60,000 for providing the Letter of Professional
standing. They’ll also need your QTS application reference number, as well as
copies of your teaching documents.
Proof of work history
You need to show you’ve been employed as a teacher in a school for at least 9
months or more.

The teaching roles you include as proof can be from working in any country but must
have occurred after becoming qualified to teach.
You’ll need to provide the name and email address of a contact who can confirm that
during your professional work experience you:

 worked unsupervised with children aged between 5 and 16 years


 were solely responsible for planning, preparing and delivering lessons to at
least 4 students at a time
 were solely responsible for assessing and reporting on the progress of those
students
We’ll contact the references you’ve provided to verify your work history before we
award QTS.
