Prove that,

If A={ 1 ,3 , 4 } , B={ 3 , 4 , 5 } ,C= { 4 , 5 , 6 }∧D={ 4 ,6 ,7 ,8 } then find the value :

(i) A(∪ B)∩(C ∪ D)

(ii)( A ∩ B ) ∪( B ∩C)

(iii)( A ∪ B ) ∩( B ∪ D)

(iv)( A ∩ D)∪(B∩ C)

Problem 06

If n ( U ) = 550, n ( A ) =200 , n ( B ) =300 , n ( A ∩ B ) =100 , find n ( A ' ∩ B' ) .

Also show this is venn diagram, where A∧B are sets and U = Universal set.

Problem 07

Show that A−B= A ∩ B' =B ' −A '

Problem 08

Let A , B and C be any three sets, prove that A ∪ ( B∩ C )= ( A ∪ B ) ∩ ( A ∪ C ) .

Also verify this result by means of a Venn diagram.

Problem 12

In first year science department of 120 students 85 have taken mathematics, 90 physics
and 62 students have taken both mathematics and physics. How many students did not
take mathematics and physics?

Problem 13

A consumer product consumes 2,000 people. Of them 850 persons use ‘ p ' and 1,250
persons use product ‘q ' . Determine at last how many of them use both product p and q .

Problem 14

25 students are in a class of them 12 students like economics, 8 students like economics
but not political science. Find.

(i) How many of them like economics and political science?

Problem 15

In a recent survey of 400 students in a school, 100 were listed as smokers and 150 as
chewers of gum; 75 were listed as both smokers and gum chewers. Find out how many
students are neither smokers nor gum chewers.
Problem 16

Out of 500 car-owners investigated, 400 owned Flat cars and 200 owned Ambassador
cars; 50 owned both Flat and Ambassador cars. Is this data correct?

Problem 17

In an examination 56% failed in English and 37% failed in Mathematics. If only 17%
failed in both the subjects. How many of them passed in both subject. Determine in
percentage . using Venn diagram.
