A. Solve the following problems. Show complete solution.

1. Janice and James are working in a strawberry field in Trinidad. Each of them must pick the same
number of strawberries a day. Janice picks an average of 6 baskets of strawberries per hour, while James
picks an average of 3 baskets an hour. If they begin picking strawberries at the same time, and Janice

finishes 1 hours before James, how many baskets must each pick?

2. Two pipes can fill a racing pool, emptied at the start, in 2 hours with the drain kept opened. If the

drain were closed at the start the pool would be full in a matter of 2 hours by the two pipes. If the pipe

which can deliver slower, alone did the filling while at the same the drain was opened at the start, it
would take the lone pipe 10 hours to do the job. How many hours would it take the drain to empty the
pool when full?

3. Every morning, an elderly man exercise by walking a certain distance at an average of 4 kph, rests for
20 minutes and rides back on his chauffeur-driver limousine at an average speed of 60 kph. If the total
time of the trip is an hour and eight minutes, how far does the man walk?

B. Create your own word problem (2 problems) about rational with complete solutions. Choose either
rate, work or any word problem that will have a rational equation as it’s working equations.
